Default Very excited!

We received the wonderful news yesterday that we will be coming to France to live and work around November! We are so elated and simply cannot wait!

If anyone can offer advice, tips or a point in the right direction we would be very grateful.

As far as giving advice is concerned, it would be easier if we knew a bit about your circumstances. If this is an employer transfer, then the employer should be able to give you quite a bit of assistance. If this is a new job based in France, you can probably get assistance from your new employer - though slightly different than if it's a transfer.

As long as you're coming from within the EU, you don't have any of the visa hassles that non-EU nationals have.

Where in France will you be living/working? The various regions all have their particular charms and gotchas.

If you're handling the move by yourselves, there is a whole different series of tips and tricks to impart.

In any event, congratulations and let us know what sorts of information in particular you need or want.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi Bev,

Sorry in all the excitement I haven't said too much!

We are currently in London. My partner has been offered a job and has expected. We need to be based no more than an hour away from Tourcoing.

W have 2 children 7yrs and 1yr.

My partner speaks French fluently and I endeavour to improve my French - as does our 7 year old.

We plan on moving ourselves but we aren't planning on bringing everything. ( I would like new things - for our new start.... As my partner is also caught in the moment he hasn't actually said no to that idea just yet! Haha)

Thank you for replying.

Danni

I was about to say that someone else here on the forum is moving to Tourcoing, but I see that IS you...

First thing, if you're going to move yourselves, might be to make a couple of exploratory runs to Lille and vicinity to scope out where you might like to live. I wouldn't stretch that commute out too much ("no more than an hour from Tourcoing") as commute hour traffic can be brutal just about anywhere in France.

Check out the Tourcoing town website: Ville de Tourcoing (59) ? Nord (mairie, services habitants, tourisme, économie) and those for Roubaix and Lille as well. Though they are all in French, it will be good practice for you and give you an idea what's going on in town. The town websites also usually have information about "resident" stuff like rubbish collection, the town council, public transport and other things you'll need to know about.
Cheers,
Bev
