Default Finding a job in lyon

Greetings from Kansas City. I have just spent the last 2 months in Lyon and would really like to relocate to Lyon. I have taught grades 4-6 for 10 years and high school French for 2. I have my masters in education with 2 degrees in French and German.

I would really like to find an English teaching position or, at this point, I would love just to be able to do anything to get over there and get established. I have applied to 5 bilingual schools thus far but would sincerely appreciate ANY advice anyone could offer in finding any work. Merci beaucoup!

Erich Ostrowski

Not to rain on your parade, but getting a job teaching English that will actually get you a work visa is pretty nigh on impossible these days. If you were over here on some sort of visa that allowed you to work (spouse, student, spouse of a "scientific or researcher") you'd have a much better chance of it, since the employer would not need to get authorization to hire a foreigner and sponsor your visa. (It might also be difficult to show that there is no one equally well qualified in the EU, what with the UK right next door and all.)

You may want to focus on "American curriculum" schools in France. I'm not sure how many of those there are, particularly in and around Lyon, but that's where you'd have your best shot.
Cheers,
Bev

I think the only American Curriculum school in Lyon is the International School of Lyon.

Lyon is the examination centre for a lot of the schools offering OIB, for example in Clermont. There's a very helpful Head of OIB at the Lycee Jeanne d'Arc in Clermont called Teresa Fontaine (I think). It might be worth trying to contact her as she's kind of spearheading a national movement to get the OIB offered in more lycees and see what opportunities there might be.
