Default Proof of address

I am still pre-move (from theUK) but am thinking I should set up a bank account. I have also bought a phone for use in France and would like to arrange the French SIM for it.

My friend in France very kindly looked into SIM deals for me and has found an excellent one that I would like to purchase when I'm next in France at the end of this month.

I am, however, a little worried that they will want proof of my French address. When I move to France in September I will be moving to my partner's address and, currently, my name does not appear on any of the bills. Has anyone else come across this problem? Do you know if they're as hot on proofs of address as they are in England?

I also need to set up a French bank account and I expect they will want the same.

I should be most grateful for some advice.

Many thanks,

Sarah

To set up a bank account you're going to need more than proof of address. Normally, they ask for three months worth of payslips or some indication of your employment (employment contract, for example) or other proof of the source of your funds.

And normally, all you need for a SIM is a bank account that they can tap for the fees. So it's a bit of a chicken and egg thing.
Cheers,
Bev

You don't need to prove your address for buying a SIM, they will only ask for having your postal address registered in their customer folders.

Cheap SIms such as Free or Sosh basic contracts require a bank account automatic debit

Others such as "carte rechargeable" do not, but the conversations are more expensive of course.

- lectricty or water bill
- income tax bill
- internet bill
- bank statement with date
