Default Newbie looking for the right area.

Hi
So pleased I found this site. We're Brits relocating to France from the USA. We've been trying to do research on our chosen area of Brittany but are not getting a sense of reality from our sources.

Anyone got an impression of the area north of Pontivy? Rostrenen through to Ludeac? The prices seem very favourable for a small holding. However I spoke to a local real estate person who told me stay clear of the area as the area is depressed.

Is this the case, we dont need bars and nightclubs, just near a nice town/village that has good business.

Maybe we should start looking in Normandy too.

Thanks for your thoughts

Stube

Hi and welcome to the Expat Forum!

I moved your post out of the Bistro (which is more for socializing type chat) and out onto the main France board. We've got several members out in Brittany, so perhaps they can jump in here to give you some information about the area your considering. (I'm in the Paris area, and not terribly familiar with Brittany, though I've thoroughly enjoyed the area the times I've visited out there.)

What exactly do you mean by a town/village "that has good business" - are you looking for local shops for yourself, or to move or extend your business when you move?
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks Bev

What I meant was a town/ village that is thriving. I visited some towns/ villages in Cote d'Amour a few years back (as a tourist) which had several empty shops on the high street. We arent shopkeepers but want to be part of a thriving community with local fresh produce, crafts etc.

Stu
