Default Jobs US to France Quest.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question, nothing too deep (for the moment, anyhow) ....

My husband and I were wondering what the ExPat Forum Americans do for work in France?

Have you created an internet job, were you transferred, etc.?

I take it you're looking to qualify for a work visa?

As with several of the other members here, I am married to a French citizen. My husband set up his own business and I work for/with him. Initially, I moved to Europe (Germany) by being hired by a US based company for one of their German sites, but ultimately was hired into a position where I didn't actually need to get a visa. As they say, "it's complicated."
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks, Bev. Yes, I do remember you telling me your situation in the past.

As for what type of visa, we haven't looked too seriously into it yet but I've heard of several Americans supporting themselves with their internet businesses and thought that was interesting. It lead to a discussion from my husband of, "I wonder what Americans do and how they support themselves over there?" type of curiosity.

Well, at this rate, it doesn't seem we're going to find out! But thanks for your reply!

Elizabeth

Internet businesses are normally a stopgap measure - often for a trailing spouse who doesn't have the right to work under a dependent visa. I think you'll find that there are far fewer expats actually supporting themselves over the Internet than there are inquiries about the possibility. Technically, you would need to set up an AE or other business entity and that can be difficult to do if you're on a non-work visa.
Cheers,
Bev
