Default Search for rental from US

Hello,

New to the Forum and happy to be here. My family and I are moving to France from NYC in September and October and and looking to find a rental home in Senlis, Chantilly, or Coye-la-Foret. We were thinking that a temporary (and possibly furnished) rental may be a great way to get on our feet and make the transition.

A couple of questions- How realistic is it to think we would be able to find a place prior to arriving in France (we cannot enter the country until we have all the visa paperwork)?

Does anyone know of an anglophone real estate agent that they would recommend in the region?

What type of paperwork would be necessary to have on hand to get a rental?

Any tips that you might have would be greatly appreciated,

Chris

For a temporary (furnished) rental, you can start by checking the ads in FUSAC FUSAC - Petites annonces pour anglophones de Paris which is an anglophone "want advertiser" - it's primarily for the Paris are, but Chantilly isn't that far removed from Paris. If the furnished flat agents in FUSAC don't handle rentals in the area you need, they may be able to refer you to someone who does.

As far as finding permanent digs, you will need to be over here and ready to talk to the rental agents face to face. You also need a French bank account, a work contract or 3 prior pay slips (preferably from your French employment). Residential leases run for 3 years (though with options to move out, provided you give up to 3 months' notice). Expect to pay a month or two rent as a fee to the rental agent, plus you'll need another month's rent as a deposit.
Cheers,
Bev

As you are coming in September/October, after the season, you will be able to find a "holiday winter let" very easily.

These are properties that are let out on a weekly basis, on commercial rents for the holiday season.

A large number of owners will then let the property from October for a 6/8 month period at a rental which is often less than a normal commercial rental.

This gives you a great chance to have a really good look at the area before making a formal long term committment.

The paperwork for these rentals is minimal.

I am not sure if I can name the sites on this forum, but if you google "long term rental" there are a number of sites that specialise in these rentals.
(PS I know that 6/8 mths is not really long term, but that is how these rentals are styled)

Good Luck.
Hope you find something suitable.

Thanks, this is extremely helpful. A temporary vacation type lease will be just the thing to let us get our bearings before we dive into a long term lease. We already found many options on the net.

Thanks again!

We found our house (and sent the listing to our relo specialist) on Seloger. It's pretty easy to use.
