Smile Home Carers

I am looking to move to Normandy/Brittany with my two horses, dog and cat once my divorce settlement is done. I am 50 years young with two children aged almost 21 and 18, who neither of them are now at home. Son is due to go to university in September and I am due to visit northern France in August. I am a home carer, travelling around Cornwall looking after people in their own homes and would dearly love to continue with this work when I move home. Does anyone know if it is the done thing in France? Also, as an option, what do ex-pats do when they can no longer manage at home on their own? Would there be an opening for a career there? I am very experienced and would like to continue working as long as possible. I realise there are a good number of care homes in Normandy, with a good salary too, which is also an option.

Does anyone know anything about this industry?

Hi. Try looking at aide domicile work or employee de maison.....my wife has several contracts supplied via government agencies (working out of hospitals) for infirm people who need help in their homes.....try the pole emploi office too.

Often this work is cleaning or helping the clients with their meals etc., normally it's just for maybe an hour or two a day, so best to keep the work very local.

The client pays the worker direct, but all taxes, cotisations are also collected by the agy., so everything is covered. Salary is often the SMIC or sometimes a little bit more.

You can if you find you own clients be paid by "cheque emploi" again the client pays you direct, but all the taxes are collected too.....so you are covered.

Mark

p.s.....yes, there are lots of care homes, my wife worked as one of the trained staff at one, but found that the management put finances first.......sound familiar?

Just to add a little precision re Markthespark's comments - only social security payments are deducted - no tax is deducted à la PAYE in the UK - tax is totally separate.

Which equates to £7.58, which is only a fraction less than the £7.75 I am currently earning, and I understand the cost of living is lower.

YES.....Contentedscot is quite correct......the deductions are not officially a tax as sort....BUT in effect when your paying a contribution to help pay off the French national debt then I consider all deductions Taxes!

I'm not certain what the SMIC is actually.....I just looked at one of MOH "payslips" and her basic is 9.22 !!

The SMIC is the French minimum wage. The SMIC rises to 9,40€ an hour as of 1 July. It has been 9,22€ since 1 January 2012.
Cheers,
Bev

Yes Bev, I know that the SMIC is the French minimum wage.....I just didn't know what that wage was.....If it's gone upto 9.40 euros from 9.22 then it looks like that Aston Martin will be arriving sooner than expected.....sometime around 2053!!
