Hello! This is my first post and I was wondering what the design market looks like in Paris? I am interested in Retail, branding and marketing. Would anyone have any ideas about getting into this field in Paris. Additional educational advice? What kind of jobs can an American with EU citizenship realistically expect in this field?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on a number of factors. Entry level jobs for young people (up to age 30 or more) are fiercely competitive in just about every field. Unemployment among young people is still pretty high, and while an EU citizenship eliminates the visa hassle, many employers will hire French before other EU nationalities.

It helps if you speak French reasonably well (certainly well enough to handle day to day dealings at work and elsewhere). It also helps if you have an impressive portfolio or some experience on the home front to enhance your CV. Having connections in the industry helps, too, as "knowing someone who knows someone" is still the surest way of finding jobs here in France.
Cheers,
Bev

Thank you! This makes me feel a lot more comfortable with being competitive in Paris. I really appreciate your feedback

I looked into several design courses / businesses etc. and realized in Paris it's very difficult to break into such an industry. It is too competitive - you would have much better luck finding a job in London or alternatively try the south of France....lots of money on the cote d azur....why not set up your own design firm there? It's much less competitive than Paris.
