Just Moved to France - Pregnancy Care??

Hi,

I just recently moved to Collonges-sous-Saleve (over the border from Geneva. I was previously living in Switzerland & FULLY covered for health insurance. Now we have moved and are going through the hoops of health insurance.

I now discover that I am pregnant. I have looked at a few expat healthcare insurers and I CANNOT be covered for Maternity for 10/12 months!

I havent received word from the social security yet - all my papers seemed to be in order, but that doesnt mean anything.

I am scared incase I dont find some sort of healthcare cover and end up with huge medical bills. What can I do?

Have you looked into the frontalier health insurance coverage? It's quite a good price actually compared to a Swiss option. I think though that this would assume someone in the family is still working in CH.

you will be registered quickly at securite sociale if you tell them you are pregnant. You would need to consult the nearest Caisse Primmaire d'Assurance Maladie to explain. Teh city council can also help

After registration all medical care for pregnancy is free in France.
