Same kind of evangelist here.
In Paris some waiters are rather reluctant to help you with the wifi code.
Attitude perhaps...

As for London NW, it is a wifi desert.

Which parts of NW London? I know some parts quite well.

In Paris, I have found cafés where there's strong signal whose network name is the same as the café name, but the waiters say they don't have wifi. I believed for a long time that either the waiters were lying, or that it was just intended for the private use by the owner and their family. I once asked a waiter about this, and he said that the wifi signal was actually used by their wireless credit card machine — does that sound likely?

It's so funny.
I've never been to Paris. But the majority of these complaints, concerns from people (while they may be valid) are entirely about individual people and their own specific discomforts and using those discomforts and personal expectations and entitlements to make firm statements about what an entire city is like and what it SHOULD be more like. You have certain needs, you have certain things you can and can't live with... if Paris is a place that makes your daily life so difficult and full of things that you simply can't deal with, then why are you there? You didn't think to look into these things or do some research online before completely uprooting your life and moving there? Then it begs the question, what could possibly have been your motivation for making the move? I simply don't understand. Ok, if it was for work then nothing can be done but even then, learning to live with your situation is far better than placing yourself in a negative state of mind all the time by only seeing the things you don't like. I assume your job is important to you and clearly you're important to them otherwise they wouldn't have paid for your relocation. If the job is a priority, I assume you knew you might have to travel for work or be relocated. I just don't see how any of this is valid if you knew it was possible to have to live elsewhere.
My irritation is with people saying, "No, no, no, you don't understand... THIS is how Paris is...." and then following that with personal issues about apartment sizes, disguised racism, and complaints about things like not having ice in their water. Another city is not supposed to be a theme park or altered version of whatever it is YOU'RE comfortable with. It's ANOTHER city. You don't like it? Leave! Or learn to deal.

One's reaction to a place - Paris or anywhere - says far more about oneself than it does about the place in question.

There is no need to be so mean! Lots of people hate Paris and it's perfectly OK to feel that way!

There are many reasons to hate Paris as there are with many cities. As you don't seem to have a choice just get to know as many nice people as soon as you can, as quickly as you can. You will soon learn to ignore the bad bits.

I hope you can speak some French, they are quite unforgiving if you don't personally. I gave up learning because I got fed up with French people asking me why I dont speak French. Now I make them speak English and dont speak to the ones who dont.

I will make up for this outrage when I return to the UK and go out of my way to help any french person I meet who have just moved to the UK.

TOP TIP: Learn how to order things like a tourist. Once you have mastered tourist speak go all out to never order anything in a tourist way ever again. Then they wont con you. e.g. never ask for 'un cafe creme s'il vous plait' ask for "un cafe" or "une noisette" with no please and thank you etc. And remember parisian waiters are genetically bred to be miserable it's not personal.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I actually hate Paris too. I have lived in both New York and London so it's not that I can't deal with big city issues. Paris just happens to not be my cup of tea-at all.

I am certain that all of us have places that we don't like. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I love Paris....I hate Parisians.....LOL.....how can anyone hate such a beautiful city like Paris?? The city is amazing...the people are not so amazing....I don't even find them rude....just too backward...it seems like they stopped progressing 100 years ago....ive met a lot of Parisians and find the majority very into their own stuff, not interested in others and not very aware of the world outside their little boring lives.....I just find them to be boring people...their parties are boring...the small talk is booooring....but again these are just Parisians...outside of Paris the french are quite nice really.

In a way you are right...but most people would dislike an area where the locals were unpleasant or downright rude...and what that would say about them is they are pretty normal! Its a fact that an area that is welcoming and helpful towards strangers is going to be far more popular than an area that isnt.

I am sure what was meant by the original statement was the people not the city.
