Default Paying VAT/TVA - Consultant in UK resident French company VAT/TVA?

Hi,

Looking for some assistance on the situation below as I have read conflicting stories and have yet to get a reply from HMRC..

Any real life experience/help would be appreciated..

Currently live in France paid by french company.

Moving back to UK in July, will be working under a consultancy contract with same company, home office based in UK but travelling to France/EU/Africa/ME with work.

Paid into UK bank account.

Will I be liable to UK VAT or French TVA and in each instance who pays this me or the employer?

Many thanks

Currently are you an employee of the French company or being paid as a consultant? Paying French cotisations and taxes or some other arrangement?

As a consultant working out of the UK, I would think you would fall under the UK rules regarding VAT (and taxes and social insurances). Normally, as a consultant, you would have to establish some form of business entity (even if only declaring yourself as "self-employed") and that business entity will determine how the VAT is handled.
Cheers,
Bev
