Default rental near uzes ?

I am retiring to france and have chosen an area around Uzes in Gard and am trying to find a rental property for 6-24mths (starting this summer 2012) while I take my time to purchase a permanent home- I am keen to find any owners there who would have a property to rent (perhaps a underutilised gite) min 80m2 with garage for storage, or at least some reliable rental agents !

Other than vacation rentals, it can be difficult to find a place at a distance. Any possibility you could visit the area for a week or two (staying in a hotel or guest house) and contact the rental agents face to face? I've noticed that the French rental agents don't seem to like conducting business online, and seeing some of the places advertised "up close and personal" can be a real eye-opening experience.
Cheers,
Bev
