Try a supermarket on the home cooking section "levure en poudre" or "levure chemique" is culinary sodium bicarbonate. Or try a pharmacie...but it will be more expensive than a supermarket.

Used to be it was only available in the pharmacies - used mostly for upset stomachs. But these days, you should be able to find (small) boxes at the grocery store with the other baking supplies (flour, vanilla sugar, baking powder, etc.).

It's considerably more expensive than what you may be used to. If all else fails, check Amazon - Amazon.fr has it, but very expensive. Amazon.co.uk has it for more reasonable prices, but check that it can be shipped to France.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi,

I've bought "bicarbonate alimentaire" for under 2 euros in the salt section. Here's a link to the Cérébos brand so you can see what it looks like.

Salut, Charlot

Actually, I just had this crisis during the holidays when I wanted to make holiday sugar cookies for my new French friends. The answer is: bicarbonate alimentaire. You can find it in the baking section of grocery stores.

Hope that helps
