Hi folks,

I'm on MODL Low Risk and am providing docs within the 28-day period. Researching on "where to go" at this point and your input is much appreciated. Kind of leaning towards Sydney though.

I'm single, have lived in big cities all my life and will be all alone in AUS so maximum flexibility of movement there ;-) In terms of priority I'd prefer to blend into a city with:

1. Higher chance of landing a decent-paying IT job.

2. Largest Chinese community (Mandarin and Cantonese). I'm open to making friends with all races but I figure it's much easier to "bootstrap" with folks of similar cultural background and language?

3. Easy access to higher education, i.e. Masters. A BSc alone ain't enough anymore these days :D

4. Outdoor sports is the rage in both cities, right?

5. Nice spring and autumn climates :D

Hi

I've been offered a job in Perth and I would like a little bit of advice before I decided whether to accpet or not.

It'll be me and my wife (and westie) and my wife will be looking for work, however if there's a bit of time until she gets work how much would I need to be earning to keep us in a good quality of life. We're not big spenders but like to go out a few times a month and would be looking to rent a reasonable sized place in a decent area.

Also can anyone suggest which areas are better than others.

Obviously it's a big move and we don't really know anybody so can anybody suggest good ways to meet people. Is there an expat club or the like?

Thanks

Is skill assessment for spouse mandatory, when she is not a primary applicant?

Q>Do I have to pay 2nd instalment - 3510 Australian Dollars ($3510 AUD) ?
A>The 2nd installment of the visa application charge only applies to dependents aged 18 years or over with less than functional English, and must be paid before the visa is granted.

My spouse has band 7.5 and Masters Degree, now do I need to carry skill assessment for her?
or the IELTS band n Certificates is sufficient enough in order to refrain from paying 2nd installment?

Also to claim 5 bonus points for spouse, is her assessment needed or meare documents replicating age/education/employment are sufficient ?

Simple question :D

Hi All

As per DIAC there is a 2 years waiting period for newly arrived migrants (skilled migrant) to be eligible for social security payments.

I wanted to know one thing from the forum members. If a permanent resident arrives in Aus and registers for CRN (Centrelink Reference Number) and then get outside Aus for 6 months and then come back to reside permanently in Aus will he be eligible for social security payments after 2 years from his first date of entry or will it be 2.5 years from his first date of entry considering the 6 months he spent outside.

Thanks for letting me know.

Best Regards
do i need to fill up my wife details again?
do i need to fill up my children (3) details again? if yes, then the space is insufficient, how can i attach additional details?

Hi,

We're moving to Queensland Easter 2010.
I'm applying for a Spouse Visa (subclass 309/100).

How long after I get my Visa can I apply for Citizenship?

We have 3 girls, have been waiting for them to grow a bit more to apply to adopt a little guy, then decided to move to Oz and we're only applying after we move and are settled, but some countries (we're thinking about intercountry adoption) require both parents to be Aussie, which I'm not, althought hubby does meet the requirement.

If someone knows anything about timescales for citizenship, I'd be thankful, just wanted to have an idea of the timescales we're looking at.
I'm a bit worried we'll age out before we can apply to become adoptive parents..:(

Thoughts on citizenship timings anyone???:D

Thanks,
Last night was hot and I heard the wind pick up so I thought I'd go into the lounge and open the balcony door - thinking it would have cooled down. The wind was hot! :(
I'm hiding downstairs which is the coolest part of the house since we don't have air con and drinking lots of water.
