After alot of research it seems my only avenue of living in the US is by either starting or buying a business over there.. which I do have the means to do... Yes I have looked info up on this.. but alot of it does seem very conflicting...

Ive been to the US many times... so am I right in thinking that the foreigners who own the local grocery stores have gotten residency this way...
Anyone who has experience with getting residency via starting up or buying an exisitng business who can give me advice.. it would be greatly appreciated...

Seriously the US is harder to get into than fort knox it seems... the way the economy is over there right now.. you think they would be welcoming peeps wanting residency that have cash up their sleeve ...

Tecnically I was born in the UK.. however immigrated to Australia when I was 5.. Im now 41... I have never returned to the UK.. geez I dont even remember the place... I am an Australian in all senses of the word...

Question is the whole country of birth thing with the lottery... surely someone in my circumstances can be classed as an Australian... seems mighty unfair if not...

Anyone who can help clarify this.. your feedback would be greatly appreciated...

I will try to make this short! My husband and I are Canadians but we are currently living in the UK on a work visa. He is a geophysicist and we would love to move to Houston, TX for better job opportunities and to allow me to go back to school (international student fees in Cambridge are over £20000/year).

He would get a TN visa at the port of entry, valid for year. Apparently, it is much easier to convince an employer to go that route and then switch to the H1-B visa. As anyone gone that route? Do you have to leave the US when your H1B is being processed?

I have spend hours trying to find the right info but can't find anything on switching visas.

Also are dependants of TN and H1-b visas allowed to do volunteer work? I know I can't work and I have tried contacting the labor department about this but it won't work... I suspect it has to do with my IP! I would love to do some volunteer work with animals.

Thanks,

Hi,

I sent off my paperwork to the embassy in London a couple of months ago for my immigrant visa interview in the immediate relative category, it was to notify them that I have all the required documentation in place.

I know it says on the embassy web site that I will be contacted within 4-6 weeks of the immigrant visa unit completing action on the application with a date to the formal interview.

I was wondering if anybody has recently had a date for the formal interview and how long they waited from sending the letter to reciving a letter for the interview.

Many thanks

I recently married my husband who lives in the US. We are going to file a i-130 form and biographic info forms, but as I live in the UK and he's in the States we don't have the proof, ie back accounts ect to prove we have a ongoing, long term relationship. We fly to vist each other ever 6 weeks for about 2 weeks and have done so for the last 2 years, spending the whole summer school holidays together too. My husband has no problem proving he can support myself and my children. We have 3 qualified friends of his that are willing to have affidavids done to state how long we went out and that we have a ongoing relationship, just doint know what wording they need to use. Please help!

Hi again guys,

First of all, thanks for all your advice thus far.

I'm planning on entering the US on an L1A visa in January 2010. My wife will hold an L2A visa. We were thinking of my wife staying back in the UK for a 4-6 weeks to finalise renting out our house while I go house-hunting in the US.

Would she be able to enter the US without me there with her or his her visa tied to travelling with me too?

If this is allowed is it something which is unusual enough to make an immigration official raise his eyebrows and cause a problem?

Thanks
My Mother is looking to retire in Florida, Tampa or Sarasota to be precise. She has a Green Card already so that is not the issue.
I am looking for help on finding out the health insurance options. I doubt she will be looking to retire 100% straight away as she speaks Spanish, French and Portuguese all things that could be put to good use as well as her English. Also, working will give her an in to settling down a bit.

I am looking for some help on the following things:

Health Insurance for a retire person or someone working part time

Property insurance for a 1-2 bedroom condo

what the major pitfalls are for someone moving to either place

What are the areas for her to avoid and which are the places that she should look at

any tips on Realtors
