Hi all, its great to read about people who are going through or have been through the same emotions as my family are going through at the moment. We are due to fly out to NZ in January and have suddenly started to feel really worried.
Is anyone able to tell us how easy it is to LIVE on an average wage as a maintenance fitter in NZ. We don't expect to live a life of luxury, just be able to pay the bills, raise our two children (12 and 9) and go out occasionally.
I read on another forum that unless you earn a large wage you will barely have enough to survive on.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. I'm in the process of applying for my residency in NZ. I submitted the EOI and it was selected today. Understanding that it is now going through preliminary checks, but anyone has any idea what is this process about? Do I need to provide them any document for verification? :confused2: Any case that the EOI rejected after this process?
From the information on the website, this process should take about 2 to 4 weeks. Another long waiting time yet don't know if I'm able to apply or not. :(

Waiting and finger crossed...

Hi there

I have been offered a job in New Zealand and am now considering the move but its hard to make comparisions between England and New Zealand. One major issue is the salaries and tax system - can anyone tell me if the tax and National Insurence scheme is very different - will I have less tax in New Zealand? I think my salary will be over $140,000 - what might I bring home?

I have loads of questions about pensions and health care but one thing at a time...

We have submitted our application after having our EOI selected. I do not have a job at the moment and although we may get accepted without a job offer I will ultimately have to find a job in order for us to move. At the moment I am a self-employed Sparkie with 10 years experience. Does anyone have any suggestions (apart from looking on Seek and Trade Me) in terms of how best to get an Electrician's job?

Hi, I've been looking into this for some time now and i have done a lot of research but i can't seem to find the answers i need and was wondering[hoping] if anyone could help me ?

Myself, i am a level 3 qualified plumber with only a years experience and my wife is an ADI [driving instructor].
It's been a dream of mine and my wife's to move to New Zealand as it's a country that suits our ideals and way of life.

The thing is I've looked for both my and my wife's line of work and there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of vacancies.

Im aware that i would have to be New Zealand registered and that my wife would have to also.

Sorry my long winded question is

Do New Zealand need Plumbers and/or Driving Instructors and do either of these jobs come under the skilled migrant category ?

If anyone could help us i would be eternally grateful, i just don't want to start the whole long winded process to be let down because this is something we want so badly.

My 2 year old and I are in Featherston for a min of 6 months whilst my husband is working in Wellington.

Is there anyone near, who would like an occasional chat etc....

I must say that Featherston is sooooo windy.. its crazy though I do like the town as most people are really friendly and we are from a small village in the uk so its a bit like that.

thanks

Hi everybody,
I and my family are thinking of immigrating to New Zealand. So I’ve began since some time doing the necessary information gathering about the life over there :ranger: and I thank everybody posted his experience about moving to NZ which gave me a great amount of information from different points of view.
I’m a professional with good experience form an Arabic Muslim origins :alien: and My question here is - and I hope anybody have some information about that can give me his opinion - if I immigrate to NZ I will face difficulties in finding work and settling down due to my origins ?? I think governments and officials in all countries may deny this kind of problems that’s why the only reliable source of information is the people how actually live in the country.
Thank you all in advance for reading my post and haply to get some replies to clear the picture for me before jumping to the unknown.

Hi guys,

Me and the family are in the early stages of looking in to moving to nz, I am lgv tanker driver and i noticed the job was on the skills list. I have done the points system and scored 165 so now i will be doing the eoi. I would like to know what are the better places to go and live outside Auckland where the weather is good and the job prospects might be better for my industry?. Any advice would be fantastic or if anybody has gone out there as a lgv driver your advise would be very gratefull.

I plan to go on a recce trip in jan as im visiting thialand and it seems pointless flying that far and not going on to nz!!

Thanks in advance paul.

my hubby and i from scotland moved to NZ in 2005, we went travelling the world, and settled in NZ, got good jobs, made great friends, had an excellent social life, got married in fiji, had regular visits from family, i got pregnant and had our daughter in 2008, we came home to scotland when our daughter was just born, so family could see her, and so my father could meet her as he was terminally ill, with the intent of going back, but we are still in scotland, i miss NZ so much, so does hubby, we were so happy there, both had great jobs, which we could walk back in to, we are doing fine here in scotland, working, making decent money, my daughter is soo sooo loved by her grandparents, who care for her while we work, she loves her cousins to bits, but hubby and i want to come back to NZ now, but we would feel so awful taking our daughter away from her grandparents and cousins and aunts and uncles, in NZ she would just have me and hubby, but would have regular phone calls and probably yearly visits from family,we are so torn, dont know what to do for the best? is it selfish that me and her dad want to go back to NZ, are we robbing our daughter of a normal family life? would it change her personality being taken away from her close family?
just wondering if anyone has been through this or knows anyone who has? and how do kids adapt?
thanks
