Hello,

Firstly sorry if I am asking similar questions to previous posts but I have read quite a few and still find it hard to compare to my situation.

I have been offered a job in Nicosia starting in the new year with a full relocation package. It is an excellent company and I am sure i would love it there. I will be taking my wife and 3 children 7,6 and 2 out. I have looked at private schooling but couldn't pay 3 lots of fees (plus my UK mortgage until the house sells) so think i would be looking to send them to a greek school.

I would be very grateful if someone could perhaps recommend a place to rent. Ideally it would be a small village with a school and an nice Byzantine church and maybe some English families but not some kind of gated expat compound.

I have looked at other posts regarding salary and believe my offer is good (circa 50k Euros) but given the high rental costs I want to make sure we will be comfortable. I am not being greedy and have a basic lifestyle but as said above i could be carrying a £600pcm mortgage in the UK for a while.

Any help or recommendations you guys could give would be great, I was hoping to come to the UK and google everything but Cyprus doesn't have a good web presence and there is no rightmove and upmystreet ;-)

Please feel free to give me direct advice and recommendations as i really need some "inside help".. I completely understand that it is your opinion and will check it all out for myself, i just need a start.

I'm looking at Nicosia and Larnaca district but would prefer to stay out of city centres.

Many thanks, apologies if i have breached etiquette or repeated and i look forward to your help!

We are considering coming to Cyprus to live for 3 or 4 months of the year, November to March but will retain our UK home just in case !

We did come to Protaras on holiday a couple of years ago and liked the people and places we went to but this is totally different to moving on a semi permanent basis.

1, Is this area ok to live in and will there be enough to keep us occupied over the winter months.
2, What are the rental costs like for a 2 bed apartment, preferably within 5 to 10km of the sea. Any website I could browse for this info
3, My business in the uk is internet based and I would need a good quality internet service so I can continue to work from Cyprus - is this available in the Protaras area and how much would it cost per month

Many thanks to anyone who can help:)

I'm just wondering if anyone on here is in the same boat??? I have been in Nicosia for over a year now and I'm really happy and settled but I'm finding it hard to meet other Ladies from the UK around the same age as I am. I am 27, originally from Leicester but have spent the last 5 years in Yorkshire. If there is any body on here in the same position who would like to get together and got for coffee or a few beers let me know...
Pension will be £13000 per annum but should we stay under UK system or take up Cyprus system? If Cyprus which do you recommend - the 5% or 30% where first 19,000 is tax free.

Hi Guys

We are still researching costs for our impending move to Cyprus in the Summer 0f 2010

Comparison exercise on a cost basis of £1 = 1 euro, shows that our monthly income of around £2,120 is well sufficient to meet our proposed outgoings (rental payments aer covered). However, some comments on this forum are making us doubt our ' maths skills! '

We are 50 something retirees (just the two of us) who smoke and drink (probably too much), and enjoy socialising - especially with food and drink

We are aware of non branded shopping (my nickname is SMART PRICE!!) and using the local markets - these have been included in our calculations

Is there anyone in a similar position who has, how shall I say - been there/done that/rad the book and seen the film etc, who has lived in Cyprus for a while who can advise please

Regards

Greetings to All!

My name is Christine and I am moving with my husband, James, to Limassol in one year (hopefully). We had a two year moving plan but recently came up with a way to fund both my certification in TOEFL business English AND our move much faster than we originally thought. <snip>

I want to get my TOEFL cert because it will allow me to spend four weeks in Limassol over the summer, and the program also offers job placement. My husband is a graphic designer with 15 years of experience in large format printing and digital graphics as well as extensive knowledge of full color LED video/message displays, so I don't think he'll have much trouble in the gainful employment department.

We made this decision because we are both still young enough to start over and we wish to change our lives for the better. (I am 33 and he is 40.) I have a very good friend in Limassol who moved from the US 12? years ago. She is willing to host us on the short term and even put up with my cat if I can figure out how to bring the cat with me.

Do people move to Cyprus from the US often? Most comprehensive info I find in English is geared toward UK citizens. I will need to know about banking and transfers, importing my kitty cat, and shipping a pallet worth of items. We are only bringing sentimental items, two bicycles, two weeks worth of career wardrobe, two netbooks and a desktop computer. I will probably ship any books I can't part with to my friend, if she's okay with that.

I know this has been a very long post. :ranger: Thank you for your patience. I will try to be more brief in the future. Any input y'all may have is completely welcome. Hope to see you all soon!
