No comment, but I have heard that some of the young ladies prefer the 'retired gentlemen' because they are far less hard work than the younger farangs. That was before cerrtain pharmaceutical aids came on the market, mind you.

No idea who it is, but I believe King Silk made a quick trip to Chiang Mai around that time

Then again, Ser2, you've gone ominously quiet since I posted that pic. Where were you last October?

Photo taken from the top floor (3) of the Starbucks at Thapae Gate for those familiar with Chiang Mai. With a powerful zoom lens... he spotted me though (as full size pic shows), but probably decided the three flights of stairs weren't worth the trouble...)

That must be the classic expat "Git". As soon as that Thai Baht separating machine [Thai lady] has extracted all the baht she can, she'll say, "Git".

With the recent death stats during the Songkran festivities running into the hundreds as usual, makes you wonder how any farang dare use a motorcycle in Thailand...

I am somewhat suprised that there has not been more replies into this picure. I think it typifies the thought of most of the worlds point of view as to the foreigners coming to the LOS.
It has made me wonder about the impresson I will be giving when I arrive. The girl I chat to is petit and skinny, ( I have had my share of stunners) but I will tower above her and twice her weight. Am I going to be the next picture? maybe. Although I am probably a little unique in so much as she has the house and a regular job and I will be the house husband, I still think I will be giving this impression about us. What say you ?

Sorry if I'm preaching to the converted (maybe of use to someone who is not versed)...
I think it depends on a lot. Some people will see it as Santa and the college girl (pic above), some will be more open minded. Their minds will be swayed by how they recognise her and how you react together. In the above the guy is dressed like a tourist (white legs and shorts a dead giveaway) - and a poor one at that (whether he is or not is beside the point), they are holding hands in public, there is a big age gap, she is wearing very short pants. To most Thais she would be assumed to be a hooker and he a sex-tourist.

Show respect for your girl when you are in the street - i.e. walk side by side, but no kissing stroking hair (or face or other body parts) and hand holding is better left to private if it is likely to be misinterpreted. Try to ensure she dresses in an 'acceptable' way - I have a friend who is married to a Scotsman. They are a nice couple. The live in the UK. In the UK its fine for all the above, and she always dresses prettily and makes herself up - she has a clevage and shows it. In Thailand he dresses like a tourist (he is) and she wears the same low cut tops, hot paints etc. She has never been a hooker and they are perhaps 5 years apart in age - yet she has had many comments and much disdain in Thailand. Once they took a taxi and the driver tried to overchage them - the driver assumed she was a hooker and the farang could afford it - when she argued about the cost, he said as much and she was offended. The old saying goes - when in Rome.

King Silk,

Those are some great photos! [Now can I say I've been to Pattaya?

An interesting observation after looking at your photos. It seems the happiest people in your photos are of the "normal" Thais - even the poor hawkers. They may be poor but they are happy. The least happy? They seem to be the "working girls" or those who appear to be ladies of the night. That said, the happiest? Without a doubt - your Soi dogs. They are VERY fortunate, and well fed pooches.

Serendipity2
