[QUOTE=KhwaamLap;164591]I actually like the ballet - I saw Swan Lake played by the Bolshoi (Nina Semizorova and Mark Peretokin - wife and husband!) and it was incredible. I watched the clip and was impressed with the acrobatics of the main dancer and her supporter, but it was that really (with [FONT=Arial]Tchaikovsky - or perhaps Riccardo Drigo - playing in the background). The supporting ballerinas seem heavy footed and lacking in ideas and just there to make the scene fit the original act as far as I can gather - and that guy standing behind the main couple waiting to catch her if she falls is just wiered (how that fits in with the story I'm not sure)

That would be a treat seeing Swan Lake performed by the Bolshoi - hopefully in St. Petersburg but most of us see a much different Swan Lake which is not all that exciting. As for the Chinese version in the clip, I think the entire spectacle was to showcase the one very accomplished gymnast and the rest were merely background but I agree that the other dancers were rather heavy footed but isn't that pretty true of all ballets - one superb performer and then the chorus which is well below in talent? Still, seeing a dancer 'on point' on someone's shoulders or, even more difficult, on their head, was pretty amazing. I've also got to say I've never seen any ballet where the prima ballerina was that athletic and able to do what this dancer did. I think you're right about the fellow in the background - I'm sure his sole function was to try to break her fall should there be an accident. It would be pretty catastrophic is she fell while doing her routine atop the male dancer's head and that floor comes up mighty fast and is mighty hard!

The last time I ate chitterlings was in sausage form, andouillette, a speciality of Lyon France. However bubbling away in a giant stew like that, not sure how much of that I could handle!

Nice photo, definitely conveys the atmosphere. But the question is ... how much did you eat?!?

A 13 year old prepares a rotee (banana/chocolate ordered) at the stall in Loi Kroh, Chiang Mai. She works six days a week, until late evening...

frogblogger,

Another great photo! You seem to have lots of them!

It's a good thing she's not an American girl - she would NOT be allowed to work since she's not at least 16. [We're stupid but that's a whole different conversation] She certainly doesn't LOOK abused. In fact she seems to be taking pride in her work, contributing to her family. Something HAS to be wrong with this setup. We need to send the American 'PC' police out to interview her for child abuse. She HAS to be unhappy - but bravely trying not to show she's being abused.

Spot on S2, "pride in her work", very definitely. Every time she spotted a regular customer her whole face lit up - and she has a beautiful, guileless smile. A lovely family, friendly and hard-working. A tasty banana and chocolate 'rotee', liberally laced with condensed milk (!), is a great way to finish off the evening before going home

frogblogger,

Keep shooting those photos! They're very enjoyable. Agree with you on the beauty of the young girl and would love to see her beguiling smile! She likely is without guile but her smile would more than likely be beguiling [or enchanting] to the recipient, young or old, male or female.

She reserved a particularly broad smile for my 14 year old son when he was there for two months this past summer. Quite funny really - she is tiny even for a Thai, my son had just had his 14th birthday and was 5'11" (back then). She came up to his midriff, just about!

What I miss most when I'm away from Thailand ...

During the Loy Krathong 'lantern' festival, Chiang Mai, November. Free drinks roadside during the pageant.

The spontaneous smiles, of course ...
