Default Tips on losing weight needed

I just read Kim's (IOWgirl) post on quitting smoking and thought I'd start this thread since I'm serious about losing weight.

Like Kim and her smoking I've lost weight loads of times only to put it back on again.

I had to lose weight for the medical to get into Oz and managed to do that since I couldn't bear the idea of neither of us being allowed in because I was fat!

I've done replacement meals (costly and don't teach you anything about food and exercise), weight watchers (groups vary from being good to being depressing), the gym (boooorrring!) and of course ignoring it (strangely enough that didn't work ).

The Biggest Loser has just started a new TV series here in Oz (it's the Aussie version of the show). I watched it last season and was seriously impressed at how much the contestants changed - not just in weight loss and looks but also in self esteem. That's given me the oomph I need to try this again.

I'm looking at either joining some sort of dance class or marital arts since I don't do much exercise (I'm sat in front of a computer when I work).

My husband is a fit gardener so doesn't have this issue. I probably wouldn't either if I was working as a gardener but that isn't about to happen

Any positive suggestions will be appreciated!

Karen

My OH has always struggled to lose weight but has cracked it this time around. He just adores his food and this was always his downfall. When he retired he vowed to be fitter and started following the Rosemary Conleys diet regime and joined a gym. He has lost stones as the food on this diet is so lovely. Lots of real spicey food which is his favourite. He also walks our two dogs every day and gets up at 7.30 to either do a swim or gym session. Yes it takes a lot of effort but he feels very worth it. Still a couple of stones to go but not flagging. Hope this inspires you to give it a go.

you really want to know how you will lose weight?
you are gonna have to exercise. plain and simple. if you dont want to do that then, well you are going to be over wieght for ever. I was tired of being obese. 345lbs. i started walking, not eating as much but still whatever I wanted, and cut my soda (diet coke) intake down to 1 can or 1 glass a day. I am down to 275lbs. I want to get down to 240-245lbs. I lift wieghts everyday so I am a muscular dude so the 200-220lbs is to skinny for my body. I walk 4 miles a day. 2 m iles in the morn, and 2 miles at night. its only about 1 hour total out of your day.

sorry I couldnt tell you there is some special pill to make you lose weight. its just getting off your ass that does it.

Thanks for replying, especially as it's your first post!

It does feel good to know that others are succeeding!

I'm at the stage where I'm tired of being obese too. It's great that you've lost all that weight.

There are some special pills but I don't trust them!

Likewise I know that surgery has worked for some people but I wouldn't want to do that. Too risky for me.

Yes that was going to be my suggestion get a buddie because then you set goals and encourage each other and where, you, would easily be put off taking a walk every day when yr meeting up with someone thats the extra push you need to train yrself, you don't want to let them down, And be regular about it, if they are more into it than you are you just take your lead from them.
Good luck. I have a treadmill here at home and I just say later I'll do it later until it turns midnight and then it is too late, so it is a slow process for me too until i regiment myself then I'll be slim trim and beautiful in no time

In Australia you have the most beautiful weather wonderful footpaths, do I even remember what they look like, and beaches and scenery no excuse not to walk, get up get out and enjoy the task you can do it, to the PM's and we'll encourage each other. I'll be in that we can report in as often as you like if you want to do that

We even chose a house close to the Blue Lake so that we could walk around it every day (about 5kms I think) but when you run a business from home I can always find an excuse to stop (or not start) exercising.

Thanks for the support and I think that you're right in that I need a buddy so that I'm not letting them down by not exercising....

That's my next task then and I'll update this post as to how I get on....

Good luck to you all that are trying. Could do with losing a few pounds myself but I'm battling my own demon at the moment in trying to give up smoking. One thing at a time.
