In Cyprus it is Euro's , Euro is the same to the pound all over where the Euro is used . Exchange just depends on the £ at the time and now most of the time the £ is crap .
I still think you will still find things cheaper in Cyprus though as you not pay so much tax on things .
Have fun in Cyprus . Peter .

Hi Andy,

down in coral bay today they were offering a very poor 1.06 i did get 1.12 in the bank earlier today but paid £5 for the service for the best rates in the UK try Cheap Travel Money: Get your foreign currency for less with the Travel Money Maximiser where you will be able to find 1.11 which while poor is still a lot better than 1.06

hope this helps

In Larnaca today, in the old Turkish area by the old market, you can get 1.12.

If you changing a large sum of money for say property purchase etc, seek some proffesional advice as there are ways to reduce your exchange rate loses by changing to a "middleman" currency first rather that switching direct from sterling to euros..... please dont ask me what they are as i dont know right now with current rates etc, but i know many people that have changed from sterling to dollars (when the dollar was on its arse) then to euros , or something else, not necesarily dollars and have made smaller losses.

Surfuk is right, there are currency solution companies here that will give you a better rate if you are bringing in larger ammounts. I use mine when I'm changing anything over £1000.

The exchange rate has been wobbling between 1.11 and 1.14 since christmas so I wouldn't hold your breath

Andy,
If you taking cash over then Alpha bank are buying sterling today at €1.104 / £.
If you are looking to do a big transfer for a property purchase then do a tracable transfer from the UK and search the internet.
If it is holiday cash look through all internets and banks at rates and charges.

Paul

I work in the money markets, it's possible but I wouldn't hold your breath. This summer will be hit hard. The travel industry is in big trouble. Be careful who you book through and do not pay air fayers etc on a debit card. Go this is the time to use a good travel agent and book with a credit card so you are covered. Many many airlines, hotels and travel companys will suddenly go under this summer. If you book direct on a debit card you won't be able to claim anything back and will fall to the bottom of the que if you're stranded.
