Default landlords....and agents - help?

Alright. I haven't been able to figure this out yet, so if anyone has any experience...please comment.

I moved out of my apartment into a new place. My current lease expires this week and I don't want to renew. I have tried contacting the landlord through the number that was provided - no answer after multiple calls and texts. Then, contacted the real estate agent - she won't answer after our first conversation.

I just want to give the keys back and get my deposit back.

My thoughts:

Write a letter to the owner, have it certified by some UAE authority (WHO?!?!?!) and leave it and the keys with the security guys.

I think I submitted my lease through RERA, but don't have documentation for it and their website is horrific, so I can't see if I have already done it!

help?

What agency was it? At the very least the agent who rented it to you will want the commisission for renting it again so will at least have a little motivation to do some work. It sounds like you will struggle to get your deposit back though, if the LL is not contactable, unless it is a managed property.

Good luck.

A group called OpenSource in Al Barsha. I'm probably going to have to go to their offices unannounced and harass them.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I quite enjoy seeing the fear in the eyes of someone who's been giving you hassle on the phone/e-mail and avoiding you as you come steaming into their place of work full of rage.

...and I think it's worth a face-to-face visit with RERA? Things work much better that way instead of online/phone.

All good intentions, but forget this line of approach, unless you enjoy long qeues, blank stares, and frustration.

Dubai municipality has a rental committee. They are the people to be contacted if you wish to contact any authorities. Or take your tenancy to the developer of the property with your legal I'd and tell them you need Landlord's contact details. They should be able to provide you with the details.

Approach agency face to face first, rent committee will only cost you time and money, plus you will need arabic lawyer. Only do that if you have no choice left.

The issue is resolved! My wife harassed the real estate agent until she figured it out.

Sure I got dinged for some painting, but whatever - I had the wisdom enough to fix the holes in the walls

As for the rest:

RERA is ...... more difficult to work with than other government agencies - even in person. They are a contact of last choice, as with any government organization.
