Default get to choose 3-bed villa when we arrive in dubai?

My husband has been offered a fantastic job with a great package and we are all set to go. The one thing concerning me is that although we have been offered a 3-bed villa and we can choose etc we cannot choose until we have packed up here, handed job notice in, handed in notice on our house, arrived a Dubai with our 2 kids and then we choose. So I will have no idea about the size, location of Dubai etc. Don't you think that is a bit risky? Is this the norm?

Sounds almost normal.
A lot of employers put their staff members up in accomodation for the first few weeks or month, until housing can be sorted.
This gives you time to get your bearings, and it gives you a chance to get a feel for each area.
Have the company not suggested areas to you?
Have they given you a budget to work with?
Do you need to be close to a school etc?
Its ok to say they offered a 3 bed, but is there a limit to how much you can spend on a 3 bed?
These are important details they should be discussed before the move over.

budget is key

IMO having visited a few places and seen current rental values:

350k would be good
250k will see you trade down on what you enjoy now
150k is unliveable for a family...

I agree. It would be unwise to choose a villa based on just a few pictures. You might get here and find that the pictures were misleading and you hate the place. By all means, start looking online and get a feel for the areas that you might like to move to and what you will be looking for in your new home. When you arrive, you can then start viewing and would have a fair idea of what you want.

As has already been mentioned, your budget is key. It will define where you live and how big the villa will be. I would advise that you clarify your budget before you arrive. Villas can be quite pricey.

Good luck with your move.
