Question Could this be true?

Hello all,

Great informative site here, so I have a question.

My sonīs friend has been offered a job in Dubai excavating sand - he has no qualifications so this would be manual labour. The wages quoted are €7000 per month which I believe is around 37,500 AED. I have read around the site and looked for more information as my son is thinking about going as well - apparently he will be a millionaire by the time he is 30!!

Could this amount be what is really being paid or does anyone think this is all BS

I would say a big joke...perhaps a site manager would make that type of money, but most labourers are from the sub continent (usually India and Pakistan) and earn about 25 dhs a day (just over 3 Pounds a day)

He might have been quoted the wrong currency i.e. should be 7000dhs, not €7000?

Even at 7,000 dhs a "western expat" wouldnt work for that amount...especially working out in the heat, digging up sand.
Housing is expensive, and I doubt he would survive on that amount here.

They may just want a western face on site and willing to pay a good bit of dosh for it. You say he has no qualifications but does he have any experience in the construction industy etc?

Does sound a little too good to be true. Well, maybe not too good... it's be bloody hard work in this heat! Feel sorry for the poor beggers that do it now for a few dirhams a day!

It's not uncommon for some of some scam artists to run ads like this seeking money for processing visas.

sorry to say so but I think is just BS. I don't think anyone would get paid here that amount even in dirhams for just excavating sand.

did your sons friend recently join a job website? (like monstergulf, etc.)?

I have my resume on monster gulf and I have recieved the most hilarious emails with scam "job offers", to do the most ridiculous jobs in exchange for tons of money and benefits. I know these people got my information from Monster because I opened a new email address specifically for that purpose only and I have not given it or registered anywhere else besides Monster.

I'd be very careful about sending any personal information to those people.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me. It's no way going to be Euros with no quals behind him so it's probably going to be Dirhams and having done research into the cost of living it doesn't seem worth coming out here for Ģ12,000 a year unless it's just for the experience of living and working somewhere else for a couple of years Aufwedersehn Pet styleee.

How much do they want from your son's friend? I've had to pay for a couple of things to get out there (attestation of documents - which is definitely bordering on a scam so don't want to get started on that ) but I don't have to pay anything to anyone in the UAE and my flight is also going to be refunded. If he has to pay ANYTHING up front to ANYONE that is not part of either the UK Legal system, FCO or the UAE Embassy here in the UK then I would say it's a scam.

If they can afford to pay them 7000EUR a month they will be not be asking for any cash. if it's Dirhams I don't know why they would be offering it to a western audience Either way don't give them ANYTHING!!! - the old adage that if it sounds too good to be true...

...sorry for my pessimism but I hate how scam artists prey on people who just want to do well in life - not good

I agree. This seems way too good to be true and has the word scam written all over it! Unfortunately, as has been said, there are people out there who make a living from preying on others desperate to make a decent living! Make sure that no money is sent to these people for any visa fees or anything of that sort!

Thanks for all the replies - I will let my son know that he wonīt be a millionaire after all

As far as I know my sons friend hasnīt been asked for any money - his mother is the one who was getting this job for her son. She lives in Belgium and he lives in Spain - the contact for the job is in Belgium.

I will let you know of any further developments.
