Coming to Dubai to check out a job offer. Where to stay?

What a wonderful website you have put together. My husband is considering a job in Dubai. We are coming out for a visit over Christmas to check it out and to interview for the position.

I havea quick question. I wondered if anyone might reccomend where we could stay? Although I have read lots of guidebooks we aren't looking for a beach vacation type of experience, but more of a day-to-day normal Dubai life kind of experience. Does anyone know of anyone who might rent us a short term apartment or flat over that Christmas break? Or do you know of any expats thats host other expats? Or do you anyone who might be leaving to go back to their home country over Christmas that would be interested in renting us their home for the week. We would be very respectful of any home we would stay in. My husband is a corporate executive and I am a primary school teacher turned stay-at-home mom, and we would treat any home with the utmost care and dignity!

Lastly I wondered if there was a forum or a place where expats get together on a regular basis? We would love to meet some people while we are there and see if this is the right move for us.

If you like the heart of Dubai I can recommend the Burj Dubai area on the Dubai Creek near Bastakiya they have a great B&B called the Orient Guest house and if you book through expedia your costs will be less than $100 per day. Nice big cool rooms very comfortable but crappy b/fasts. Nice staff

If you want more upmarket area Regent Beach who run specials or Arabian Park, Golden Sands , any hotel in the Burj Dubai area will do. There are literally hundreds of hotels to choose from. Do as much booking online as you can make huge savings. Beware the actual hotel websites quote far higher prices . Try lastminute dot com

Beware the taxi's and stick to registered companies like Dubai Taxi's or Metro. Don't rent them by the hr and ALWAYS get a printed receipt.
