Default Job Offer - Advice needed

Hi
My "better" half has been given his contract to look over and I'm just wondering if 23kAED is a reasonable amount to live on monthly. This would include his accommodation allowance.

I'd not be moving for a while yet so he'd not be supporting anyone only himself.

any advice would be welcomed
Thanks

Have you looked at any threads on this site? You will see that accommodation is expensive, around AED 100k for a one bed apartment.

You use the term 'better half' - does that mean you aren't married? You are aware that it is illegal to co-habit?

Thanks, I've been on here a while and was looking at different salaries etc. I'm only too aware that we would not be able to live together and it's something maybe we'd rectify sooner rather than later. I understand it's illegal but I've also been told on this board that it is commonly done as long as it's under wraps so to speak. (I wont be joining him out in Dubai for at least six months and a lot can happen between now and then)

I've had a look on bhomes and found a couple of places for about 80AED a year which would be covered by the living allowance given in his salary.

Maybe he should just hold out and see if they offer more.

As you are not married, he will not be able to sponsor you, unless he decides to put a ring on your finger or you manage to find a job and secure an employment visa through your new employer. If he will be living on his own and doesn't have an overly extravagant lifestyle, then it is certainly doable. However, if the salary will be used to cover both your living expenses when you eventually join him, I think that you will seriously struggle.

As Elphaba has rightly said, accommodation is very expensive and will take a large chunk of his salary. I would suggest setting a budget of about 100,000AED for a flat. Bear in mind that you are not the only one eyeing the 80,000AED property!! Also, rent has to be paid upfront for a whole year. On top of that, you have to add 5% deposit & 5% agency fees!

Thanks for all the info. I should point out that I'm not expecting him to sponsor me in any way shape or form, I'd hope to get a job myself prior to joining him out there.

Can you tell me also if it's possible for unrelated women to share accommodation?

Technically, it is illegal to share however it is done by almost everybody. As long as you are not causing a nuisance and are repectful of your neighbours, nobody will bother you. I'm moving to Dubai soon and have every intention of sharing!!!

It would be a bit more tricky to share an apartment with someone of the opposite sex or with your partner. Saying that, if anyone ask, you could always say that you are married. Discretion is the secret!!!
