Default From Manchester to Dubai

Hello everybody. We could be moving to Dubai as my OH has been offered a post which includes accomm and school fees for our two girls aged 10 and 8.

To say that I am excited would be an understatement, I can hardly type as my hands are shaking!! What an adventure.

I spent midnight of my 40th birthday in the Burj last year ( long story ), and have many wonderful memories of the city.

I am a huge fan of forums, I use them all the time for my business, so I know for sure that this will be the first visit of many. What a great source of info.

Look forward to reading more...

Tricia.

Join the club - my OH announced are proposed move yesterday - am torn between trepidation and excitement. My girls are 10 & 13 and are equally torn!

So I've been reading through the forum avidly this morning. A large number of my questions have already been answered thankfully.

Exciting times ahead methinks

How crazy is this????

We are three months into a major and expensive refurb on our house incl building an extension! Every room is being gutted.

Now this! I am in shock, and I haven't decided if this is the worst or best timing......but one thing is for sure, we only live once and after I had ensured the girls will benefit from better schools then it was an easy instant decision to say YES! YES! YES!

Nice to touch base with others in the same position, keep in touch with progress. We are only days into this news, so I am at the very start of the process, but I could go tomorrow.

nice to know i'm not the only one in that position, especially with 2 pre/teenage girls - i've had a few negative comments about taking girls and how its easier for boys! (taken with a pinch of salt though!!) However having been out with them on holiday, apart from the staring which my younger daughter didn't notice, they had a great time.

My major concern as will be most families I presume is schools which I'm digging into at the moment. Any recommendations for this age group and advice re waiting lists most welcome. Don't know yet where my husbands office is which I understand helps greatly in locating yourself.

Raven,

Hopefully within the next week or so I'll be able to give you a bit of info on schools.

That is one of the first things that I have to get sorted for my girls, along with my medical, residancy visa, somewhere to live, bank account, driving licence etc

lol

Most schools have waiting lists, so you may need to put your name on a few lists.
If you know where you will be living, try and opt for a school nearby (or close to work), to try and cut down on travel times (traffic can be horrendous)
