Default new here...question about moving to dubai..

Hello everyone...

i am new to this forum and just looking for some answers to some questions...i have read many of the posts regarding cost of living and how it is expensive in regards to big families moving..but i am in a little bit of a different situation...i currently live in ontario canada i am 21 yrs old and i am in university...i want to move to dubai but i don't know how easy it would be for me in my situation. I don't have a university degree yet only my highschool diploma so i can't get a professional job as of now...but i would like to finish my university career in dubai (i know all the procedures and costs of the schooling) i would just like to know will it be possible to work a part-time job and be able to live off of that alone (with some savings of my own as well). i would be moving on my own so hope to share a place with 1 or 2 people. I work for a Bank here now and i have 3yrs experience in managing a restaurant, i speak arabic and english fluently and a little french (if that makes any difference), is it possible to get a job at a bank easily or a decent part-time job? and the average cost of renting an apartment with others? what would my monthly salary have to be (as a student) to live comfortably or semi-comfortably?

any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
thanks guys!

I very much doubt that any company that would employ your part-time would be willing to cover the cost of your sponsorship.

i definately don't expect a company to cover any costs since it would be a part-time job and i am a student so i am not looking for that, but just an overall estimate at costs that i would incur while being there as a student and if it is feasible at all do do that

Hey dubaibound,

I Think what Elphaba is trying to say is that it is quite difficult to enter the country in the first place, to even be able to work or go to school. You bascially have three options:

1) you enter on a visitor visa (assuming your from Canada), in which case you have 60 days to find a job, and get the sponsorship ball rolling from what ever company

2) you are sponsored directrly out-of-country from here (Canada), in that case the company will get the ball rolling and have your "work visa" when you land waiting for you at the aiport.

3) Apply for Student Visa, from some of the various channels, such as the emirate embassy in ottawa. Allthough I dont know about how hard/feasible that is.

Even if you go into the country as a visitor and/or wanted to work as a student, no companies will do the official sponsorship papers for you to be legally entitled to work there.

Now if you want to enter on a student visa, and pick up a job under the table, that might be possible, but I find it extremly difficult that you will make a wage part-time enough to actually live in dubai, even with shared accomodation. You will need a car, and the cheap places to rent are outside of dubai, which means a tough time commuting in to get to university everyday.

unless your personal savings are substial enough to live on while you are finishing studies, I would say it would be very difficult to live/study and work in dubai.

Have you started the application for student visa with the UAE government?

Good luck! let us know how it goes.
