Hi All,
Another thought from my previous question....

My wife has just finished her MA in English Literature, part of this was to read the work of Salmon Rushdie. I am assuming bookss my this particular writer are taboo....?

Also she has articles about him downloaded onto her laptop as part of her dissertation, will these need to be deleted ?

Thanks

this could be a tricky one, I am not 100% sure about it. Elphaba might be better to advise. I seem to think that whilst his book was originally banned here in the UAE the ban was lifted, BUT I might be wrong. Stick the stuff on the CD and bring in that way.

No one told me that these things (esp porn) is banned here in the UAE. Fortunately, no check was done on my laptop and my storage devices in the airport when I flew in.

I consider myself lucky. Since then, I've erased all traces of it to be on the safe side of things.

I dont know about books though.

Cheers!

Not entirely sure and I can't find any evidence either way. Mind you, if I remember corectly I had a copy of Midnight's Children in my container. That wasn't searched. And I have certainly brought in some other books in my cases on various occasions that I haven't seen on sale here.

I suspect it is a case of contect. One person bringing a coupl eof books isn;t an issue. Someone trying to sell/promote 100 copies is something else. I'd just take care with a copy of The Satanic Verses as that is the one people muight recognise if you were unlucky enough to have your cases searched. I have never been searched flying into Dubai and I do it 6-8 times a year. No one has ever looked at my laptop either.

I suggest that men are far more likely to have bags & laptops searched in Dubai.
