Default Moving in 2 months... Help!

Hi everyone, me and my fiancee are moving to Fujairah in March time and have no idea what to expect. He is an engineer and is going out with work and i am going with him.
First of all, do we have to be married?? I have read/ heard so many different things, can anyone tell me for sure? Is there many expats in Fujairah, are there any on this forum even...???!
Any help or advice would be massively appreciated as i am very nervous!

Soph xx

Hi and welcome,

Fujeirah is beautiful. There aren't as many expats there( as some of the other emirates), but there is certainly some.

I don't think any one from the forum is from there, though most have probably traveled there as there are some great beaches, and diving spots.

Yes, it is illegal to live together without being married, but people do it and act as a married couple.
You will have a few issues though - your partner will not be able to sponsor your residency, which means you will need an employer to. ( which may be difficult as jobs aren't easy to come by- and Fujeirah isn't as large (job wise) as some of the other emirates.

Act married

You nag him, he goes on the lash. You do the washing, ironing, cooking etc and he goes on the lash.

Seriously, you would need to refer to each other as "my wife", "my husband" etc. Only his name would be able to go onto any rental agreement, you wouldn't be able to be added to his alcohol licence, until you got sponsorship you wouldn't be able to obtain a UAE driving licence etc

DEpending on what passport you hold, you may be able to come on a visit visa, and just renew it a few times.
He will only be able to sponsor your residency if you are married.
Without residency you wont be able to get a drivers license, you couldnt be on tenancy contract, utilities contract, cant get a vehicle loan etc

Cool, I am not sure how we will get around it cos we don't want to break the law however "relaxed" that particular law is, so would you say it is best to get married? I am gonna speak to the embassy too, see what they say about it. I have so many other questions... i may get annoying after a while! The internet is useless though, i read so much stuff that wasn't true and didn't know what to think about anything!

Is Fujairah expensive? Are there "ex-pat" communal areas and stuff...?

Thanks!! xx
