A great big THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! I pulled fifty recruiters from your tip! I'm gonna email them all. Dying to get out of the states till this recession is over... it's going down-hill fast here!!! Congrats on the big 5-oh!!! Just did the four-one in November-but no matter what, I've got a feeling I'll always be nine years behind ya... lol
love and respect....
If you have a secure job in the US, I would advise against coming out here. Even if you work for a company that has plans to cut staff, please wait until they've made a decision about your future with them before jumping on the first plane to Dubai. The UAE has more or less talked its construction industry to a standstill and the pessimistic prediction is that 45% of its construction workforce will be made redundant in the New Year unless new projects are brought online - the likelihood of that happening is very slim as everyone is being cautious and waiting on the other to make the first move. Sure, there are glossy ads telling people that this is the perfect place to escape the recession but I think you'll find that the reality is very different. You are better off in the US as there construction is controlled and you don't have people hiring extra staff just cause they figured it they could build a city overnight, so in that respect jobs elsewhere in the world are a lot more secure that they are in the UAE - most companies here were hiring surplus staff to cope with projects that they thought they would have in the New Year.

If you can afford to wait, I would give it at least a year before moving out here!
