Default Some basic questions.

Hello, everyone. I am new here, and I have been considering movie to Dubai for some time. America has become..bloated. Supressing. I feel trapped here, even though it is my home country. I am looking to move to Dubai within two years, after finishing my various technical certifications. I am currently in school and finishing my automotive certification, and I will then be moving to a different college to complete my BMW training. I have a few basic questions, though, mostly concerning whether or not it's practical for me to move -

1. Do I need to have an employer before moving to Dubai? If yes, how do I go about looking for a job out of the country (Besides on these forums?)

2. If I do not, is it practical to move to Dubai or the surrounding area's, and then search for work?

3. Moving from the US, do I need any specific visa's, anything notified before leaving my own country?

3.1 - Is higher education (A bachelors degree or up) required by law to obtain employment?

4. Do I need to renounce my US Citizenship at all to become an official citizen of the UAE, instead of being listed as expatriated?

5. Is there a set amount of currency I would need to bring with me to transfer?

6. As I work in the automotive industry, (which I know is flourishing in the UAE about now), is there a large demand for skilled technicians? Would it be safe to assume that I would be able to get a job in a related field, making enough money to provide for rent?

7. I know that Dubai and related areas are under Muslim law, so the next question is this; are there any specific religion-related tasks or papers that I would need to fill out or complete before being allowed to immigrate or become a citizen?

8. Am I able to import, or purchase a vehicle in the UAE, without being a citizen? Same question for renting property (Not owning, as I know how..er..fun that is to try, without being a citizen.).

Thank you in advance, everyone. I know some of these seem very basic, but having browsed around the forums, I found my questions to be too specific for some of the broadly generalized answers I found. I'm sure there will be more questions that I want to ask, and many things I need to know. If you feel so inclined, please inform me of these things.

Thank you in advance, once more. Gratefully yours.

In short no but it does help if you have a firm offer before you come out. No point wasting time and money if it ain't going to happen.

2. If I do not, is it practical to move to Dubai or the surrounding area's, and then search for work?

If you have enough savings then it's practical to come out here. It is VERY expensive here unless you are sensible with your choice of where to live. Don't be drawn into thinking that you have to live in the Marina/JBR to have a good time here.

3. Moving from the US, do I need any specific visa's, anything notified before leaving my own country?

You will need a Visa, if you have a job lined up then it will be sorted by your employer. If you're coming to work here then you'll need a 30day visit visa first then you will have to leave the country and return on your work visa.

3.1 - Is higher education (A bachelors degree or up) required by law to obtain employment?

NO, but you will need your highest education qualificatio notarised in your home country BEFORE you come and BEFORE you will get an employment visa. You MUST get this sorted BEFORE coming if you choose to come looking for work.

4. Do I need to renounce my US Citizenship at all to become an official citizen of the UAE, instead of being listed as expatriated?

You can NEVER become a UAE citizen. Unless your father was an arab emirati national holding a UAE passport. Even being born here does not afford you the right of a UAE passport

5. Is there a set amount of currency I would need to bring with me to transfer?

LOTS, it depends on where you want to stay and for how long without work, rent is one year in advance unless you flat share but it is VERY expensive

6. As I work in the automotive industry, (which I know is flourishing in the UAE about now), is there a large demand for skilled technicians? Would it be safe to assume that I would be able to get a job in a related field, making enough money to provide for rent?

If you're in management yes, anything else no. The work is done by much less paid workers from the indian sub-continent, ME and Africa. You would be paid considerably less than you would in the US.

7. I know that Dubai and related areas are under Muslim law, so the next question is this; are there any specific religion-related tasks or papers that I would need to fill out or complete before being allowed to immigrate or become a citizen?

Nothing

8. Am I able to import, or purchase a vehicle in the UAE, without being a citizen? Same question for renting property (Not owning, as I know how..er..fun that is to try, without being a citizen.).

Yes you are

My advice would be not to come here in the Automotive industry in anything other than a management capacity. It goes for a lot of roles here, IT is another field.

HTH & Good Luck with your studies.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
I will give you just give you basic answers to some of your questions, and Im sure others will be on shortly to answer some questions too ( Im not in the same field as you)

1. Ideally- yes, but not everyone does it that way.
Try applying direct to companies or through agencies.

2.If you move to the country UAE, then you can look for jobs in any of the Emirates. No use being yourself in another ME country, if this is where you want to be.

3. You can enter the UAE, as a US passport holder on a visit visa. You will be given a 30 day stamp at airport, and this can be extended for a fee.

4.Some positions do require degrees, some dont. You will need to have your highest education certificates attested and notorised , as they are needed to complete work/residency visas ( do this BEFORE you come here)

5.You can not become a citizen here
You can become a resident here ( so you will always be an expat)- but do so through a sponsor ( through employer of family)

6.Cant help you with that ( not my forte)

7.You mean Sharia law.
The UAE follows a mixture of Sharia law and also civil and criminal law.

8.You can only purchase a car when you are a resident here.
Some property developers offer residency through buying property here- but not all developers can offer this now.
But as a resident here- yes you can buy property here.
