Default A couple of basis questions..

Hello folks - great forum with priceless info for newbies like us. We're planning to move to Dubai from the UK in January and can't wait. I've accepted a position and have sent off all the paperwork as requested by my employer.

With regards to the work permit and residency visa a couple of questions.

1) My degree - My name is slightly misspelt (something I only noticed when pulling out the thing after dismissing it to the back of cabinet 14 years ago)

My old university said it would take ages to sort if they could do it at all (don't ask) so due to time pressures I got a copy of the thing attested by the required bodies and sent it along with the originals to Dubai. Also sent along a notarised signed declaration.

From experience is this likely to be a problem with the UAE Immigration?

2) My wife and I married in Pakistan (she was a Pakistani national at the time) and only have a Pakistani marriage certificate, which of course would be Islamically fine in the UAE. However I'm not sure what the process would be to get it attested etc. Pakistani Embassy in the UK? Pakistani Embassy in Dubai? or an UAE Embassy in Pakistan?

I've contacted the relevant bodies but have had every permutation as an answer!

Sorry - a bit long winded I know and I appreciate that my issues are probably not the most common but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

hi,
You have to notarized it first and even before notarization have it translated into English. Next step would be to get it verified by Ministry of Foreign affairs icamp office n any of the big 4 cities. Finally, the Embassy of UAE in Islamabad will legalized it for use in UAE.
That's the only process and nothing else will work for you.
Regards.

Thanks very much Pharmacy.

Just to clarify we're actually British citizens living in England.

So if if I've got this right ,

a) get it notarised here in the UK,
b) then legalised by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office here in the UK
c) and then legalised in Islamabad by the UAE Embassy?

I just wondered when you mentioned the big four cities you thought we reside in Pakistan.

many thanks for all your help.

It really DOESN"T matter what nationality you are and where you reside? If you are married in Pakistan and your marriage certificate (nikahnama) is issued by the local authority (local imam or the masjid) then it MUST be verified and legalized in the country of issuance, not the country of citizenship or residence.
