Default pipe dream slipping away with the world economy?

I don't know about anyone else but it feels like we should be putting tinned goods in an air raid shelter with all the economic doom and gloom..

We decided a couple of months ago that we wanted to go to Dubai and get away from it all, experience a new culture and show our little girl a bit of the world. At the time, all of the recruitment specialists descended upon us with promises of great wages, interviews in london etc.

Two months on we are hearing nothing. Are all of the jobs gone? Are we mad to think we can beat the rest of the crowd to the few jobs left and could we be in a worse position if we were let go over there rather than here?

would really welcome to opinions of those out there! feel like my life's on hold waiting for this dream and i just don;t know if i'm wasting my time!

I can't tell you what things are like in Dubai (I'm in Australia) but I can tell you that it's not doom and gloom everywhere.

Remember that bad news sells in the media.

There are people still making money in the current climate.

Money is made when you solve other people's problems - this forum could be a good example of that

Try to sort out the hype from reality.

My favourite quote:
"There is never a lack of money - only a lack of ideas" Robert H Schuller.

Good luck,
Karen

An hour ago I received my contract for a management role based in AD. It got couriered to our house here in NZ after phone interviews and internal security check. My personal experience is that there is still plenty of activity and opportunity in UAE. Hang in there and keep at it.

Things are always slow here in the UAE, as people have said hang in and things will work out. these plenty of work here in the UAE.

I do think it helps to know the right person, or just juave a few contacts, what position are you loooking for and have you contacted agencies? you can PM if you want to keep things quite.

I hope this will keep yr hope alive...I applied for the role I will cover last september 2007!!! My company seemed to be in a hurry as for months nobody was interested to it. After a short training my departure was planned within the end of may, I felt like the destiny in UAE of my company depended on me. At the moment I am still in Milano!!! Finally since yesterday I have the flight ticket in my hands...13th november 2008...13 months later...up to you any comment.
