Default marketing manager

Hi,
I'm currently in Oman and have been offered a job in one of the automobile distributors , post of mktg mgr.

The salary is 16k p.m. all inclusive + annual ticket + medical .

If I take up this offer, I would be moving with my family ( wife + 2 kids). wrt medical,Family would have only general consultation available at company clinic, any specialist consultation not covered.

They have verbally promised me Salary review, Incentives, bonus after a year. I am waiting for the contract ( unlimited).

Is it a good offer. I am Considering it because:
- can shift to Dubai from mct
- mgr post from Dy.mgr
- better opportunities for kids

Thanks

Hi,

I personally think that is a really bad offer, especially if you have a family! I am sorry because I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear but Dubai is not cheap. Plus, as far as I know, a marketing manager makes more than 16k.

Some would even tell you that 20k is not enough for a family. I would reconsider.

It doesn't seem like a good offer to me... 2 kids and no medical insurance, just general consultation at a company clinic? and no education allowance either?

Verbal agreements and promises are worth nothing here, better get everything in writing before moving over if you decide to go ahead...

Thank you for the advice.
I know that its not the best salary but I have been trying to get out of muscat for long time. I see it as a entry to Dubai and mine being an unlimited contract I guess I can change jobs after a year if employer do not fulfil the promises of incentives /bonus / salary review.

Am I correct about the possibility of job change after a year.

Thanks

It's not that easy change jobs, there are restrictions. First of all, even with an unlimited contract, you are still obliged to serve a two year sentence (as I like to call it) before the ministry puts a ban on you. However, if you are switching to another job with a managerial position (with a uni degree attested) they can lift that ban off.

Keep trying. 16K for a family is little believe me. I'm sure that you want the best for your family, and with that pay, you will always be careful of what you spend to the fils (and 0 savings).

If I had a family, I'd be looking at at least 25k PLUS benefits, e.g health, schooling, tickets and what not. Be patient; like they say the fruit of patience is ripe my friend. Good luck and please do keep us posted.

the salary depends on your passport --- people from the indian subcontinent may not be paid more than that; horrible as that may sound
