Default we're moving in soon.

Hi everyone, my husband and I are due to complete our purchase of a property in Liopetri, near Paralimni.
We have only ever spent 3-4 days in Cyprus but liked what we saw. We intend to retire there as soon as we can, I am an active and employed 60, Keith is 62 and employed postman with Royal mail.
Due to the poor currency exchange rates at the moment, and having to pay the final payment on our property which is much more now, we find that our "safety net" savings will be vastly reduced.
We have two options to go for it and chance finding part-time work to fund our living costs, or stay in the UK where we are both employed until things settle down a bit and we cantry to save a little more money.
I am an ex self employed florist, I trained at the Welsh College of Horticulture and in Japan then i had my own florist shop for ten years in Cornwall.
Do you think I could set up a floristry business in Cyprus?
Is there a Horticulture college or school on the island?
I would really appreciate some help.

Hi well done on your new build . If you can bear to wait a year it will be better. At least you have got your property as things are still moving
in cyprus.would you think about leting it out , best cash is holiday lets when not using yourself or long let for a year.I have done holiday lets for 3 years was hard too but worth it it was the only way we could get our foot on ladder. now iam ready to move over.think you need to take more time to sort out cash, work is pooly paid so you dont want to streach your self to much
look into floristry and see if its worth setting up but take a bit of time i know its tempting but dont rush it. dont want to put you off i cant wait to go. but a year will pass quick and you will get off to a better start all the best
Tricia

We lost much of our 'safety net' when our property in the UK didn't reach the expected price or even our budgetted price. However we were beyond the point where we could back out and we have come anyway.

If you don't speak Greek it is possible to find work but it is, as Tricia says, pooly paid. At the moment there's lost of bar and waiting work in and around the resort areas. But prices are rising everywhere, especially fuel and food.

As regards starting up a business, it is not easy as there is some red tape however the Cypriots do love flowers so I think a florists, in the right place would work.
