Default Removals Question ( entering cyprus)

Hi All

My wife and I are coming over the cyprus in april next year and have a few questions about shipping. We are obviously concerned about cost and our first door to door quote seemed very excessive. We have asked for other quotes and methods, e.g. self packing, but would like to hear from people with personal experience as opposed to a company's stock answer. So does anybody have any tips or experience you think may help us? One company has also said they can reduce the total cost by around £300 if we handle customs etc at the other end, would this be worth it as well? We also have two cats to come over so naturally the costs are mounting and we would appreciate any advice. Thanks for your time

hi George,
Welcome to the forum.
If you read through some of the threads you will find that there has already been quite bit of discussion about removals and moving pets over here.
Take some time to read the threads and then ask any specific questions you still have.
There is always someone who will have information to share with you.

Regards Veronica

Hi,

I don't have any furniture to ship as I currently rent and just a few electronic items (PC, mini Hi-Fi etc Plasma TV being the biggest item) and probably a couple of boxes with clothes and bits and bobs.

Is this best done via air or by cargo ship? Specifically price and worried about the TV getting damaged are my main concerns? Don't want to sell and rebuy the stuff as electronics seem to be more expensive over there.

I'm a bit lost, have done some research but all the quotes want 1 bedroom.. 5 bedroom house etc but this doesn't really apply to me.

Thanks
Brian

I just shipped 2.2 cubic meters of personal stuff (things like you are suggesting plus some clothing) for my family's 7 months stay in Cyprus. It has cost about STG850 from Wales to Larnaca docks and I have been quoted EUR180 to deliver it to Nicosia. Hopefully that gives you an idea on prices for shipping....

Hi George and Cat,
My husband and I moved here end of May this year and we also were surprised at the moving costs but, If you can possibly stretch to use the all in packing service I would thoroughly recommend it. Whatever you do DONT do the customs clearing yourselves - it would be an absolute nightmare. They work very differently here and altho some might say you can do it yourselves we had a car shipped over seperately and had to hire a clearing agent when it got here as we (as lay persons) weren't allowed to do it ourselves. You are then at the mercy of their prices.....cash in hand etc etc....
Our stuff from our 4 bedroomed house - all of it including another car was packed and wrapped at our UK home into a 40' container and then cleared through customs and unpacked at our new home and took 3 weeks to the day. We had to pay an extra £400 this end for wharage charge (???) and we still dont really know what that was for but everything else was included in the price. All went so smoothly as it was a worry to me but incl travel insurance the total was £5800. We used Burkes UK end and MK removals this end. Both were brilliant and I would use them again. Hope this helps.
Deborah
