Hello Alison,

Yes I do work in the industry, however we very much believe that clients have to be buying a property or renting for the right reasons, rather then be sold one or rent through despairation and misinformation/understanding. If there are any issues you wish to ask, then just ask away, or pm me.

Hello, there, we are in the same boat (same age, money etc) so to speak but have no children...my husband is a retired firefighter and i work with young people. Me too am afraid to take the risk and want to rent before hand. If we dont do it (its my husbands dream) we will never know, and i dont want to wait before its too late. Hopefully this website will help us ALL out!! nice to see others are having the same experience.
Val n Geoff

Default Feeling Flu!!!!

Hi Alison, we're not feeling blue, its mostly down to flu.. everyone has it !!! Anyway, ive read your replies and they are just brilliant as it helps to make my mind up and there are some wise guys out there... we may be around Paphos or somewhere near an airport or big town, we just dont know.. I love Coral Bay but then its all about prices of renting and living.. we arent holidaying, we do have to realise we wont be spending as much as we would if we were there for 2 wks. We will rent but then the time is when... we arent sure but we are one step further than we were last week.. i think we are going to have to estimate a time limit.. we've been married 2 yrs this year and we said when we met it would be ideal to move away.
E mail if you want to chat, you never know, we may end up moving the same time!!!
Take care

Cool I did it

Hi there,
Just thought you'd like a little positive input.

My husband and I moved out to Limassol in December with our three daughters (18, 15 & 13). We don't have loads of money and neither of us are top brain surgeons so we were worried about being able to make enough money to support our girls and give us all a better quality of life.

WE LOVE IT.... I have already got a job as an accounts administrator, the pay isn't bad when you compare it to England as long as you remember the difference in the cost of living here. We are renting a property in the village of Pyrgos but have already decided to buy a property or have one built. Our 2 youngest girls go to the local Cypriot school (they get extra help because of the language barrier). Most of the Cypriots are really nice but just like anywhere in the world there are a few bad ones. Just don't expect everything to be perfect, life just isn't like that...

The main benefit from living here is the sense of freedom and relaxation. You get much more family time and you can enjoy it more because you arn't stressed out all the time.

hello Vicki, thanks for that. Again we havent alot but its scary. I work as a learning mentor /school counsellor helping young people thru any problems they may face. Ideally i would love to work in an English school doing the same sort of thing. However i doubt many of the children in Cyprus english or otherwise have as many problems as some of our children do inthis country... hopefully not anyway.
We are willing to work but also to enjoy a much more slower pace of life but definitely meeting new friends. I think the worst will be missing friends and family.. how di dyou get on?

Default Work, Family & Friends

Hi
You shouldn't have too many problems with getting the type of work you are looking for in the Limassol area. There are several English schools around. Don't think that because the English kids live in Cyprus that they don't have problems. Some families move here to get away from something bad, I know we did and although our kids are better for getting away they now have new problems such as adjusting to a new way of life in a foreign country. People like yourself will always be needed.
On the family and friends front, yes we miss them but if you have access to email its not too bad. I am one of the lucky ones as my Dad is in Cyprus every 6 weeks and stays for 3 weeks at a time, I probably see him more than ever now. Telephone calls to England are pretty cheap from here too. I made loads of international calls last month and the bill was only 20 Euros. You will also find a lot of clubs etc for Ex-pats and the English pubs are good for meeting people. We go to a pub called Chasers in Limassol, it's run by a Scottish couple Ian and Liz, we have made loads of new friends there and they are great if you need any advice. I highly recommend it as the place to go.....

Oh thanks very much for that Vikki, like us all we need something to keep us busy, and I for one will want / need to work once we do move. I really love working with challenging kids ( easier as we havent any together).
I would do voluntary work if need be to get my foot in the door. Im also studying on the Open Univ. for a grief & bereavement diploma so that may come in handy (i could always hang out in a graveyard to get some work!!!)
I love the outdoors and enjoy (like Geoff) socialising, he loves cooking and having people over...its our hobby if you like. Mind you probably thats why ive put a stone on since i married him!!!
One of my best friends lives out in paphos and her daughter often visits. Plus we would have to have access to email as its pretty easy keeping in touch with everyone.
We are out there in July for 2 wks so we are gonna look at some accomodation for next yr but not sure where, or maybe look the 1st wk ifnot the 2nd at renting long term or just whats on offer. We made friends with some wonderful people from the Paradise Club in Paphos.. an ex pats bar. Hopefully we will meet up with them, they say its a great place to go and theres a designer shop underneath it whch sells ladies clobber!!!!
Anyway, off to do the garden now in the roaring wind! Take care enjoy your week end. Feel free to e mail any time
Val n Geoff
