Family attacked by mob on holiday

Simon Pierpoint was stabbed and beaten during the attack
A Shropshire family have told how they were attacked by a mob of up to 30 people in a Cypriot resort.

Simon Pierpoint, his wife Jeanette, and their five sons, from Bronygarth, near Oswestry, fled after being attacked in Paphos with knives and wooden planks.

They had flown out to the resort for a wedding and were on a night out on 17 June when they were set upon in what they insist was an unprovoked attack.

This is the first time I have heard of this sort of thing happening so lets hope that the perpertrators are dealt with and nothing like this happens again. Paphos has always been, and still is a safe place to be compared with many holiday destinations and I am sure that the Cyprus government will not stand by and allow its reputation to be sullied by repeated incidents such as this.
It must be noted however that the circumstances behind it have not really been given and without the full facts no judgements should be made.

I am sorry to say that this has been happening for some time. Some Cypriot citizens of Arab decent were by Bar street speaking Arabic which I believe is why they were singled out, then jumped on and severly beaten. These men were in their 40's and sucessful business and family men. That was about 5 years ago. I have have heard of a few more that were never on the news. I love Cyprus, but I would say be careful - as you would anywhere else. A female friend was also accosted in the old market in town on a Saturday around 2pm when a local teenager ran up and "accosted" her is all I will say. So, please be aware of your surroundings and don't think the low crime rate will keep you 100% safe. If you are the one victim then, that is 100% unsafe for you.

Very true , the circumstances of my son being hit is clear. He was standing still looking around to get familiar with the town. Someone bumped him he said sorry and woke up covered in blood from a punch to the chin. they then robbed him of 10 euro and left him . the police say that this could not have happened which is why i flew over to be with him as support. the brits do have a bad reputation but with my son and the other guys this is not the case. They were all out for a wedding with there wives and girlfriends and these animals just layed into them. They even said to one of my sons friend we have put your mate in hospital now its your turn.
animals just animals . Pathos safe you have got be kidding . This will not stop here this is going to big news soon

I am very sorry this happened to your son and your family. It is a shame and I do hope something is done about it. Have the men who did it been identified or arrested?

The problem areas are usually heavily policed on busy nights but as in the case of the two men I know - they were on a side street walking to their cars when they were followed and our female friend was also on a side street but in the middle of the day. She never reported it as it was her word against his and he ran off after she pushed and shouted at him in Greek (to his astonishment.) She believes he thought she was a tourist.

Just be aware and report any and all problems as our friend should have -just so police are aware of all incidents occuring.
