Hi - i'm new and having trouble making a posting. just trying! Great! I just tested and it worked! I'm a retired american and am thinking of moving to cypress for the long haul. Can anyone tell me how difficult it is and what the requirements are for a long term visa? Also what is the average price for an average 1-2 bedroom apartment - rental? Thanks a lot!

Hi Jennaflower,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on making a posting. I think to get the definitive answer on the visa requirements it would probably be wise to contact the Cyprus embassy.

I am making the assumption that you know the island is divided into two, the north is controlled by the Turks and not recognized by any other country while the south is essentially Greek speaking though independent and part of the European Community.

First of all I would advise that you think of the type of area that you would like to live, even though Cyprus is fairly small it does have just about everything including cities, villages, coastal and mountain areas.

In most of the cities and the majority of the villages you will be able to find a one or two bedroom apartment. The costs will probably start at around $300 per month for something fairly basic and the sky will be the limit.

If you're looking for a one bedroom apartment within walking distance of a large village/small town not far from the coast and in a small community containing a swimming pool then let me know as I will have one available when I move out of it in two or three months time.

Dave.
