Default A little help please!!!

Hiya everyone, my name is Charlene i moved to Nicosia Cyprus, when i was 22 with my partner and moved back to the UK when i fell pregnant at 25, we found it a struggle when we were there before but we lived in a small village and i don't really want to go back into the same predicament with a child in tow,, but i miss it sooooo much i have to come back.
My daughter is 3 now and i am really desparate to move back now but now having a child to think about it is not an easy decision to make.
Please can anyone tell me the best area to move to with a family, and where the best state schools are.
Also how is it finding work in these area's, or how easy is it to set up a company over there, i never looked into this when i was there and i have not been back in 2 years so i have not had the chance to ask anyone.
Thank you
Char

Hi Charlene,
Welcome to the forum.
I don't want to burst your bubble Charlene but if you found it a struggle here without a child you will find it even more of a struggle now you have child. On top of that there are fewer job opportunities than there were when you were here before.
What sort of finance will you have behind you if you come back here?
You ask about starting a business. What sort of business do you have in mind and do you have the finance to start one and support yourselves until it starts to earn you a living?
The last thing you should do with a young child is rush into things without researching very thoroughly. Remember you are no longer a young couple with no responsiblities, you are a family.

Regards Veronica

Hi Veronica, i understand what your saying as we learned the hard way about being abit too wreckless with our finances.
My partner had a job before we landed in Cyprus which was good although it took me ages to find work, when i finally did it was just paying the bills and loans we had taken out so we didn't really see a penny of it.
We have family over there and the have been there for around 20yrs, we hoped that they could help us and guide us with the rights and wrongs when moving to an alien place but we didn't really get help from them, only a place to stay until we found our first place to live.
I won't make these mistakes again.
I want to open a day care centre, which i know is going to be hard but i like hard work.
I wont be coming over for about a year anyway because i need to finance this and will be saving and planning good and hard.
Just thought that maybe in a different area things may be a little different.

If you are thinking of starting a day care centre you would probably be best off in the Paphos area as by far the majority of expats are in this area so you would stand more chance of success here.

There are numerous day care centers in Paphos though and unless it is done extremely well which would require a good amount of financing it would be rough. We have seen several start up and close down. Mothers here have a lot of choices and like mothers everywhere they want the best for their children. Obtaining proper licensing, student-teacher ratio, equipment would all need to be up to standards. Perhaps you should try a small baby sitting group at your home with "drop-in hours" for a lesser price rather than a full day care center. Also, now with the swine flu outbreak you may be better off if you have a small group and less chances of ccoming across a nasty bug or virus when in a day care full of 20 -30 kids. Just repeating some concerns I heard my wife and other mothers voicing one day recently! ;-)

Hi Charlene

You will need quite alot of business info and alot of planning before you arrive. <snip> As far a schooling goes I would recommend a state school as learning another language is faster that way.

Best of luck Catherine
