Smile Another newcomer looking for advice

Hi, great forum. We've already learnt a lot. We've had a holiday home here for a few years but have now moved out permanently. A few questions you maybe able to help with.
1. Is it possible to make cheap phone calls back to the UK, if so how do we do it?
2. We're living in Larnaka, does anybody know were we can buy a couple of cheap bikes, ideally used.
3. Where can we buy a good used scooter?
4. What's the best deal on internet access?
5. What's the best deal for getting some English or American TV? We're not big TV fans and aren't bothered about sport or films but would like to get thinks like Spooks, Sopranos, 24, CSI, waking the dead. That sort of stuff.
Any help or advice you have would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Garry and Alison

Hi Gary and Allison,

Welcome to the forum.
I think that Babs is probably the best person to answer most of your questions as she lives in the Laranca area. She will probably be along later.
As far as tv is concerend there are quite a few different packages like hotbird etc.
We had a large dish installed (2.8m) and we dont pay anything as we have freeview card and can get most of the programmes you mentioned.
Cytanet pretty have a monoploy on internet access but there may be someone in your area who does a wireless system. I beleive you can get a system which gives you both internet and freeview tv via a satellite dish.
We pay around 60euros per month for our phone and internet(broadband)
We make a lot of calls as we run our business from home so that dosnt seem bad to me.

Regards Veronica

Hi Gary & Alison,

1.If you're with Cyta dial 1018 from your landline then the usual 0044... It knocks a heap off your long distance calls. If you get online though, Skype is great and it's free.

2&3. Can't help you with bikes or scooter, just have a shop round and check the notice board in your UKCA

4. We're on Cytanet, we've got unlimited wireless broadband, the monthly charge is 17.50 + VAT, Once they've heaped on the land line charge and service charge, our monthly charges come to 42.93 + VAT. I know some people are on spidernet but don't know how it compares.

5. We've got a sky plus box from the brother-in-law linked up to next doors satalite dish. Cost us 100EUR to get the lad to come out and run the cable accross and we pay half the B-I-L's Sky bill wich gives us the whole package.

Hope that helps
