Default Moving to Limassol

Hello everyone,

I am moving to Limassol on the 25th Nov. I am only 19 and I was wondering if people could give me advice about living there.

I was offered a job in a pub in Limassol by A.M. Employment Enterprises, 25 Afroditis, Paphos. Also this company is asking for 250EUR fees to be paid on arrival for getting my residency permit and picking me up at the airport, all of which I think I could do myself. Any advice ?

I don't want to paint a bad picture of Cyprus before I've even got there but I guess I have rushed a little into moving to Cyprus, but I have also heard lots of stories about trafficking in Cyprus, can anyone tell how bad it is really ?

Anyway thanks for any advice in advance !!

Caroline.

Hi Caz. Good you got a job.But i would not want to be tied to one company.
Where are you from if EuropeYou dont need a permit you stay for a few months before you aplay.I think you would be better getting your own acc
About 200cyp a .month Also it best to wait till spring when more staff needed. go for a summer see if you like it . then think about permits ect.gives you time too save up too have a bit of cash too see you till you get paid.I love Cyprus but every where theres good and bad take your time to sort things first. Do you mean the employment agency ? Or the pub ?

I have my uncle picking me up at the airport and he's going to show me around Cyprus for a few days, he has a villa in Pafos, but I'm still abit baffeled as to why the employment agency are asking me for money ! Don't they get paid by the employers who they advertise for ? Anyway 250 is a bit steep just for picking me from the airport.

Thanks alot for the advice Tricia, I do feel alot safer with my uncle there.
I guess I'm pretty easy going and I don't really mind what work I do, I always have the option of coming back home (I have the money and a home in UK).
I don't really mind where I live either so I just have a few questions :

Should I take the job I have been offered or look for another (considering the time of year and me being easy-going) ? I'm just abit worried about the employment agency that offered the job, do these kind of jobs (bar work) usually go through employment agencies and why are they asking for money ?
Is it a scam ?

I cant say for sure. but bar work waitress ect if there is a job you see a note on window or get cyprus mail.Do a cv for your self give out as meny as you can talk to people its the best way.Not a lot about at this time of year as i say get there .you have a exape if you cant get work Do not think you will be as well paid as at home but your young only you to worry about.so go for it.i would not go with agency . cant you go direct to bar .if they not happy or you not move on look else where

I would not part with a penny if I were you. £250 is probably about half a month's salary and a lot of money. An employment agency asking for this sort of money does not seem genuine. If I were you I'd go there, stay with your uncle for a while and look for a job while you are there.

Good luck!

I agree with Aase,it looks a little suspicious if you are being asked for money.

All the reputable agencies that I know of charge the employer.

If it's a permanent position they usually charge the employer a percentage of the first years salary and if it's a contract position then it's usually a percentage of the hourly rate.

I'm afraid that this sounds very dodgy to me.
