Default Making ends meet

Hello people in Cyprus,
In my previous thread I mentioned that I was coming to Cyprus for interview at two schools in Limassol. Well, it would appear that I am to be paid a low wage that, according to all the literature I have read, will not support my wife and I. We will be renting a property, we need a car and after paying bills we would like to eat and drink (non-alcoholic) a little too. How easy is it for a hard-working teacher with many other skills, for example computer maintenance, to find additional employment that will increase my wage to a level that will provide support for us both? Any suggestions?
George

Default Don't Panic

I moved to Limassol in Dec 07 and have to say that people keep going on about the rubbish pay here... Please remember that the cost of living is also dramatically reduced. I even enjoy paying my bills now coz they make me laugh when I compare them to England.
I am only earning 1,190Euros a month, I have a family of three children and a husband (none of them are working yet!) and we are managing fine.
If you can do any sort of work with computers then you will be laughing, within my first three weeks here I had five job offers all for the average pay with benefits like medical insurance for the entire family.

Smile Thanks for your kind remarks Viki

It is good to hear that I am not alone in the 'struggle' to earn sufficient to live here in Cyprus. As you say, I am managing to live on the salary I am being paid (being helped by my son and people I know, who allow me to stay with them for very little in the way of board and lodging) and when my wife eventually arrives she will hopefully get a job and we will be able to live in our own, rented property, enjoying the Cypriot way of life. Actually, many people have told me not to panic as things will work out but it is not that easy when one is faced with such a dramatic change in circumstances. I am, however, enjoying the more relaxed work environment and the friendliness of locals who appear to want to help, expecting nothing in return. I sincerely hope you are finding Cyprus to be as pleasant. Thanks for your words.
George

Hi Viki, my daughter Arianne (a mature 19 year old) just moved to limassol this week (restaurant & bar work at 'Molly Malones') she does not have a laptop with her, is there anywhere she could get access to a computer on a daily basis until she could get her hands on a second hand laptop ?

thanks, concerned mum Linda

Hi Vika just read your post re living on 1,190 per month my hubby and I are thinking of relocating but were not sure if we had enough to live on but what you said makes it more viable as we live in uk with approx 1850 euros per month after tax. can I ask if you rent a house of that amount? or is that extra

Hi Trica Have seen your site and it is very informative, You know I think it is the unknown and you what some one to tell you 1 it is enough or 2 you won't make it on that. We have been going two cyprus for nearly two decades and we are now 65 & 68 you would have thought we would have done it years ago, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Do you know anything about precription charges are we are both on regular maedication.
