Question moving to cyprus next year

hi everyone,

My partner and I are moving to cyprus next year. We are aged 40 & 30. My house is on the market and once sold then I'll purchase a property in cyprus. I won't be requiring a mortgage. My current job is bar manager my partner is corgi gas fitter and hgv fitter.

Would the sensible thing once my house is sold to rent while looking for a property. Have heard so much about rogue property developers that i really don't want to rush into it.

Would be so grateful for any information regarding our move. jobs, good estate agents and the pitfalls of relocation.

Thank you for taking the time reading this post,

kind regards

Dawn

Hi Dawn,

Like you our house is on the market and we will be moving to Cyprus once it is sold or rented out. Unlike you we are going to rent, at least for the first year, there are many properties for sale on the island so you can take your pick. The downside of this is that if you choose the wrong property or things don't work out and you need to return home then it could take a heck of a long time to sell your property in Cyprus. This means that you could become trapped.

If you are determined to buy a property then I would be tempted to either take a short term rental or go self catering, especially if you move out of season, in the area of Cyprus that you plan to move to. This will give you the opportunity to have a good hunt around and hopefully find a property that suits you the best which shouldn't take too long.

Just like Tricia says, you need to take your time.

Dave.

hi,
it's so great to hear fellow movers...
we're looking into moving at the moment and i'm searching the internet for a property with a garden...villa, apartment, doesn't really matter.
do you know something about the projects in north cyprus? i've seen a few but i dont know what they're like in real life and i haven't been there to see.
any advise?

HI Amy.you need t.o look more on the net about buying in the north .
where ever you buy you need to go there first see if its for you. dont go on these three day £99 trips. you be led around projects not left alone and be sold a dream that may turn into a night mare. I dont know about the north i have allways loved the south west. My hubby has a web site for proptertys
New Home in Cyprus - independent property agent Whatever you do research , go and see , then come back and think. If its stillfor you go for it but take time. Tricia

Personally living here l would come over and rent, you have nothing to lose by it and you can then shop around.
If you are buying a new property you can expect to pay 10% commision on the other hand you can buy a resale and pay as little as 3%.
Don't rush it there are some bargains around if you look and have the money.

Default hey thanks

i'm sure i'll go see for myself, but first i'm looking around in the internet, not exactly bothered with the cost as we are planning to relocate and it is not an investment. What i'm mostly concerned with is that i like the place.
Actully the project i like best from all i've seen in north cyprus is called sweetwaterbay especially the bungalow. I'm not sure if the rooms are big enough but i plan on going there and maybe i can get them to lower the price if i will like it when i'm there.

yes do go and take time , but if you are going to live there .. you need to allso find out about the area servises ect legal advice. You can try to get better deal. If its off plan try for extra air con ect . find out how the garden will be( not allways like the pics or show home)If its not started you may want to change things inside or add a bidet to bath room ect. ps get your own legal advise not sellers. i wish all the best .
