Default Negotiating property rents

We (my wife and I) are heading for Paphos, Cyprus in September 2012 to commence, what we hope will be, a long term relationship with the Island.

We currently reside in Spain and the apartment that we rent was originally priced at Euro's 600 per month, negotiating with the estate agents reduced this to Euro's 391 per month (the odd 9 euro's is the rubbish collection cost which our landlord agreed to pay).

Are we going to be able to negotiate a similar reduction for long term rental there?

My initial aim is an 800 euro villa for 600, is this feasible do you think?

We would like to live in a Greek Cypriot area away from the tourists, any recommendations would be welcome, not to cold in winter and not to hot in summer.

Thanks in advance

Pat

My in-laws had a villa for rent for 700 Euros per month and on a 2 year lease they brought it down to 600 per month. They did not use an agent so no commission to pay so it all depends on the owner. So, in answer to your question it could be possible on a long term lease to bring a rent from 800 down to 600.

Forgot to suggest villages we like: Kathikas is great, Drousia is nice, Tsada and parts of Anarita. Although the first three are cold in winter. Make sure you have a fireplace and central heating if possible.

Thank you Cleo for your confirmation, the large number of villa's up for rent can only work to our advantage.

As to the places to live, again thankyou, they will be on our list of favoured places when we arrive and, yes, our property wishlist includes a fire and central heating as well as a pool and air-con for those warmer days!
