Default Cyprus way?

Hi all!

The last 6 months I have been involved in the planning of a solar power project in Cyprus. Not a big one from start but can be in the end.

The reason for this is that I wanted something to do when we move over

Cyprus has an ongoing Feed-in and Grant scheme that would give the project a very nice future, not only creating electricity. It should give 40% of the investment cost and 28 eurocent per every KwH sent to the grid.

This is ofc a dream scenario. In what other field can you start a company where the product will be sold to the customer and the sales and price guaranteed for 20 years ahead

But as usual there is ofc a hook.

Talking today to the Electricity Board in Cyprus and now confirmed by email, the board states that they are now working with applications filed in 2010. There are 150 applications made and only 50 will be approved.

This means that if you want to build something that produce electricity, wind or solar, you can do ofc but you cant get any help from the state and you cant sell the power.

This will ofc halt most of the renewable energy projects in Cyprus.
At the same time UN published statistics that say that only Malta has less photovoltaic power in Europe.

Its a real pity but perhaps there will be new money

What a shame Anders, I know you have been planning this for some time now and it must be very frustrating for the customary slowness of how things work in Cyprus to thwart your plans. I hope that in the end you do succeed even if it takes a few years to come to fruition.

There is a company that plan to invest 114 million euro on photovoltaic in Cyprus and the have already secured 33 million in funding from EU. They now apply to be able to start and they try to get permission because they dont want the Feed-In or Grant. They only want to be able to sell the power. If that goes through there is perhaps a way

The strange thing is that Cyprus for sure need the power

Well if the government keeps blowing up the power stations photovoltaic might be the only way we can rely on having power
