Default NZ winter weather: Icy blasts forecast

I see the Herald is warning us of winter weather next week, the Temperature in Auckland will drop from 19 to 21 to 16 to 17, now that's cold.

Personally I will be glad to get rid of this muggy weather and get good photographic days

I realise in the south island it may be a tad cooler

Stow the brolly ... and prepare for cold - National - NZ Herald News

In Ireland 17 is summer. My MIL retires to bed if it gets past 21, that's an unbearable heatwave.

I wish! Mist and rain, my mum had hailstones yesterday. And very windy. We did have three days of summer weather last week. Didn't make up for being snowed in for 6 weeks in the winter, and it getting down to minus 16 though.

Looking forward to living in a place where 16 degrees is considered winter weather. It sure beats the below zero temps here in Toronto.

I was in the Rockies 3 weeks ago and spring had still not arrived, but Lake Louise was stunning with the ice. We are getting sun for a couple of days then rain for 2 or 3, but I got my face burnt on Tues. whilst strolling on the beach with my camera. It is warmer than usual do to La Nina, our ski-fields still have no snow

the last time I went back to NZ from Thailand I spent time on friends' sheep farm in the Wairarapa region, inland, 140km north of Wellington; I had to borrow extra clothes, struck a particularly cold spell - this pic of their dog who wanted his morning game of football with me, it was minus 4.75 degrees Celcius (? 24 Fahrenheit), colder than usual and ice in the pipes broke an impeller in the water pump.

The 'up-side' is the clear blues skies that can follow a day like this once the frost and mist clears.

And a real contrast to where I am today, should be 32 C by lunchtime, at 7am this morning:
25.5 Celcius
Relative humidity: 86 %
Wind direction : Still wind
Visibility : 10.0 km.
Weather : Cloudy

Default Some snow at last in the mountains

The cooler weather has opened up Whakapapa in North Island and Mt Hutt in the south, but the rest still waiting. Still nice in Auckland though, we have a sunny few days coming.
