Toronto has been noted as one of the more expensive cities of the world to live in , yet it also has a high percentage of ethnic residents , my last reading was over 50% , probably due to the comfort of feeling a little like home . People of ethnic origin seem to form areas of those from their own countries , I imagine they can function better in life that way instead of feeling like 'A fish out of water'' , in that respect it does have its compensations .

From the experiences of family and friends , BC has quite a different spread of ethnic peoples and the way they operate in that provinve , the Chinese live basicaly in their own manner , but do not infringe much on the wants and needs of others and being quite self sufficient , even down to types of buisinesses and medicinal orientation . The English influence has receded more into the back-ground as the global influence takes over . Colin .

Problem is, we've never been to BC, and we wouldn't know which areas to look into. My husband is a computer technician, and I would probably look into retail or customer service etc. Which areas in BC would you recommend? I would like a few suggestions so I can look at job listings and cost of property etc That way I can factor in our wages and living expenses. We have $30,000 CAD saved for a down payment if we decide to buy our own place, and only enough money to get through the first three months. We would like to secure jobs when we get there. My husband was born in Canada, so he would not have to apply as an immigrant. We have relatives in the Greater Toronto Area, and figured it would be easier to get settled there because my husband would have a place to stay whilst looking for a job. Canada is huge, so we would like to consider all options. Can anyone draw a comparison between the two, so we have a better idea of what to expect? Ontario vs BC, given our financial situation, and jobs.

Thanks in advance.

Without a doubt - British Columbia. Ocean, beaches, warmth, mountains. Is there really any other reason?

I personaly would think there are many other reasons a newbie should consider as a first base from which to start a new life in a strange country , the very first and most important thing that comes to mind is monetary survival , once that is achieved , all else can be put together like a jig-saw puzzle or as a mosaic of what you would like to have in your future .

Canada is a huge domain , where most intended life-styles can be attained (Or achieved ) dependant on what you desire and how hard your intent to aspire to personal independance as a family . When one has the opportunity of free accomodation and the help of relatives or friends who are already aware of Canadian life and the pit-falls that are inevitably awaiting you , it can (and will) make a huge difference to your success (Or failure) in a srange new world that awaits you . Even though Canada is often thought of as an extension of your current home , there will be a certain amount of 'Cultural shock', which is easier overcome in the company of loved ones . Once you are settled and have overcome the first stage of your new journey into prosperity , then you are able to look at things for your future in a totaly different light than the vista you have in your minds eye as to what lays ahead .

I wish you all success in your future life , it can be very fullfilling if you have your iron in the correct fire .
