Talking New Friends

Hi again folks

How did everyone who has made the (big) move found the process of settling into a new country and making freinds. My better halfs biggest fear is moving away and beign lonley.

The emotional cost of emigrating should not be downplayed. For many people it is devastating when they're not surrounded by family and friends. It isn't quite as bad today as in the past, what with email, cheaper overseas calling and, of course, SKYPE. If your better half is close to her family, sees them daily or thereabouts, she may find it most difficult. Canadians are not like Brits insofar as, for the most part, they don't call on each other for tea and a chat. If your BH is shy or introverted it will certainly be difficult for her. Do you have young children? Often that is a catalyst for meeting other young mums and starting a relationship. Will she be going to work? Again she will make contact with other people to enhance her circle of friends/acquaintances.
Where is it you're considering locating to?
